My Hoya buotii

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

Hi all,
I purchased a cutting of Hoya buotii from Antone (dischidia.com) last fall. I received the cutting on October 16, 2008.

This is the plant, less than a year later (photo taken today, 9-20-09). I have never had a plant grow so fast in all my life.

I had to take the vines and wrap them around the hoop again because they were starting to climb the cord on the blinds.

I did find a peduncle on one of the vines, so I am hoping that my unwinding and rewinding the vine does not abort the peduncle (the peduncle is now kind of upside down a bit.) There has been a peduncle right at the base of the plant for a long time, but it has never produced any buds.

I would guess that others have had plants grow this fast, but for me, growing in my house, this is amazing to me. This plant has been inside since I received the cutting. The plant grows right next to the West window in my living room.

Has anyone else, that is growing in their home, had a plant grow so fast it amazed you?
Thanks,
Mike in Mpls

Mike: Wow, that is a beauty! Amazing growth from a cutting in just one year! Hope you get blooms so you can share the photo's. Great growing ... that is a really nice looking plant!

That's really beautiful Mike - good growing! That sure is a fast grower, especially for its first year. The only plant I can think of that grew that robustly from day one is H. guppyi. A few cuttings I got this summer have grown alot too: engleriana, albiflora and lamingtonae, so I'm keeping a close watch on them.

Beautiful, healthy looking plant Mike. I'm sure you will be rewarded with a bloom in no time.

Awesome growth in such a short period of time. I'm growing one in the greenhouse and it has put on a lot of growth too.

I had a Hoya coriacea that grew like a weed. The craziest one I've encountered is aff. albiflora, which is constantly putting out long vines that snake around other plants, and seems to grow 6" a day, easily.
