Black Taro question

Houston, PA(Zone 6a)

My first year with Black Taro, I love it! Anyhows, it is sending out long shoots that look like they want to root. How can I root these, it's almost time to bring in my tropicals and I would like to get some starts of this.

Bury the swollen part in a pot with your favorite soil mix and it will root. Treat it the same as the mama plant and you should have several rooted fairly quickly. Once you see roots coming out the bottom of the pot, you can cut the connection between the mama and the new plant.

Thanks for the info!

if the little shoots have "nubbins" on the nodes already I just go ahead and cut them off and se a little rooting hormone and pot them up

I love these too. I bought them once but I let them freeze :(

This sunday there is a exotic swapping in Belgium. A little bit more than an hour drive from here. I was planning to get one there (cheap or by swapping). And hopefully some more plants!
Everybody wants to get rid of its excessive plants for the winter.

Good luck Jori. Hope you find the plants you are looking for.

Rox, can you post a picture of the mother plant?

Houston, PA(Zone 6a)

It's kinda hidden behind this Ensete but you can see the leaves peeking around.

Ensete must be the gorgeous banana. How fine! Surely it isn't hardy???

Houston, PA(Zone 6a)

Nope, it's not hardy. I spent last Sunday digging everything up to come in for the winter. I have pics of my garden this summer here if you wanna look see. I had lots of tropicals.

Here's a pic of the taro pups. I had them in these dishes with dirt, still attached to mom then I decided to just cut them off. They are rooting just fine.

Your yard is impressive. Are you digging all of those plants? I hope you have cheap help!!
This is the first that I have seen of Black Lace Elderberry. I love it!! Are you cutting it back for winter?

Houston, PA(Zone 6a)

I cut most of it back just to see how it would root. I'm seeing nubs, so I think it's rooting.

You have a beautifull garden Roxxanne! I would love to have a garden like that. I have almost all the plants you also have. But I have to bring them inside for the winter. Now it is time for digging a lot up!

Houston, PA(Zone 6a)

Leeuwtje, I dug mine up last Sunday. They'll be resting until next May.

And where do you take your plants for the winter? Do you have a picture of that? I will take one of my greenhouse soon.

I am in zone 6A. It will be cold and wet until April at least. January and February will be between 0 and 30 degrees fahrenheit. You are probably thinking of Houston, Texas. They are much warmer there. My plants go into the garage for the winter. I don't have a picture of that, it's not pretty. They are all jammed in there, barely enoough room for me to get through to water occasionally.

Look at the runner and there are swollen spots with tiny bumps. Just cut the runner off from the end to a couple inches below the swollen spot as the tiny bumps will be roots soon. You can plant it in moist soil and it will root or put in a glass of water and roots and leaves will appear soon. I do this all the time with my runners and have made a ton of new plants. Enjoy!

I loved the guara shrimp plant :)... I saw the title, and had to look, but it really was, and they look beautiful together. Very nice pictures! Do you have good luck keeping lantana over the winter?

Houston, PA(Zone 6a)

This is the first year I've tried. We'll see.

I seem to lose some of them every year and wondered. But I do manage to keep some, too :).
