Hi you all, I would like to buy a variegated Monstera, as above, for my daughter for Christmas. Dp any of you have one to sell me? Sure would appreciate it. Thanks, Jeanette@potc.net
Monstera deliciosa 'Variegata'
Hi Jeanette!! long time no hear...any luck on the philo?
I thought about you today as I was moving two of the potted Myers lemon trees today. Remember those seeds you sent me way back when???
Rj
Hey Randy, I've seen you around Daves, here and there. You travel in good company. At least to good places. lol. I had forgotten about those seeds. Sounds like they grew for you. any lemons on them?
No luck on the philo, do you have one? Send it this way!!
Good luck, Jnette - I searched on the internet and a small plant is running around $100.00.
Jeanette, I do have one, but it's languished a bit this summer and not sure if it will be presentable as a gift. I can put it in intensive care for a couple of weeks and send.
Also, I know the place that I got mine at (Jerrysjungle.com) at his yearly sale, is once again coming up in OCT, and I can look for one there too. They Meyers lemon trees I've kept stunted for lack of space, although they were re-potted this summer and are growing like weeds. I've seen them produce at very small sizes before so may be next year I may get some lemons.
Kay, I've never heard of that ridiculous price before! Shall I be looking for two?

I see them on ebay from time to time.
Is this they type? I have two different types, the other is from a DG garden in Hawaii, it's much less variegated , with occasional marble stripes.
The extra one I have, should be like the one in this picture, although I noticed the leaves coming out are all white, which could be where it's at. I've been thinking of putting it in intensive care anyway. It's scraggly..didn't like it's place by the pond, although 2 feet away the Hawaiian one is loving it and growing up the fence.
I am just relating what I found on Google.com - I've never actually seen one.
LOL, I know Kay....I didn't mean to sound impolite.
Do you have a picture of the Thai philo?
That is pretty cool Randy, you can send it my way any time, but not too late in the year. You know it gets pretty cold to be shipping plants thru Spokane and up here. It is getting down to near freezing at night now.
It won't leave too big a hole there. Besides some of those others would fill it right in in a week or so. lol.
Yes Kay, I would love to see the picture too.
It's not me that has it - Hetty (Dutchlady1 does) - she will probably post a picture.
Would still love to see a picture.
Jnette, do a Google.com search and click on 'images'.
Boy Kay, you lost me. I'm sorry, I don't want to appear dumb, but google.com doesn't show me anything like that. I went into the plant files and looked under Thai Constellation philodendron and the only thing that came close was an Albo Veriagata. my spelling might be off on that but close.
Gotta run. BTW, I didn't get a chance to get the picture of the orange Thunbergia today. Will do it tomorrow.
Jeanette
there was a couple in the marketplace here on daves 35 and 45
Do you have the link, Hetty? I could not find him on EBay.
I tried that.
I found Jim by googling 1-stop-aloha, up in the corner. I asked him about the monsteras. Right now he has 2 pages of plumerias with a half a dozen cordylines and others.

There are various cultivars of variegated Monstera deliciosa-type plants running around right now. The most common (and actually fastest growing with the most attractive variegation in my opinion) is not actually the "true" variegated Monstera deliciosa, which is much less common, much slower growing, and typically pretty pricey ($100 not being that unusual). The more common one is what I've called Monstera deliciosa borsigiana variegata - which I'm sure is not completely accurate, but the name I've stuck with as I've yet to track down the real name. This is the one most commonly seen for sale on eBay, sometimes accurately id'd as the borsigiana-type, or just "Monstera sp.", but also often incorrectly sold as variegated Monstera deliciosa. Those are usually fairly inexpensive, maybe averaging (and me guessing) anywhere from $15 to $45 depending on the seller, the size of the plant, and whatever crazy eBayers are bidding. ;)
Of the "true" variegated Monstera deliciosa, I think there are a few white variegated cultivars (albovariegata), one being 'Thai Constellation' as mentioned above. There's also a yellow variegated variety (aureovariegata), as well as a white variegated contorted cultivar. There may be others, I can't remember off the top of my head.
Interestingly, l've never heard mention of a non-variegated borsigiana-type, though I do have one from a variegated stem that reverted to all green. I'm growing it out just for fun.
And who knows... With the way aroids flip-flop nomenclature, all of the above could be out of date!! Lol!
I have 2 on the way to me. Will be interesting to see how varig. they are. I see many "odd" plants being sold as Philodendrons. Makes me wonder if some sellers aren't being a bit liberal with their IDs.
Where are you getting them gas? I saw some on marketplace but the seller didn't have very good feedback.
A seller I am not familiar with so I will not say anything until they arrive. Kinda expensive as well.
Oh Rj, I am so jelaous., I have tried to grow the variegated ear here but not enough humidity. It does OK in frost? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7091554 And look at the one to the far left.
I may have a small one, Jeannette. It may be too small and ugly though for a gift. I will have to hunt around. I had started one outside. I have not seen it lately though. I will look tomorrow. I am about to leave the house now.
I just saw huge ones 2 days ago that were grown as bushes more than climbers. The one I had in my dining room grew up and had so many aerial roots that attached to my wall. After a couple of years my husband made me put it outside when he saw the damage. I myself was kind of thrilled about it. It lives on but not as happy outside esp in winter.
Here is one I saw. I also have a piece of this one I bought last year.
Oh, Kell, that is beautiful!
Gasrocks, I hope you have good luck with yours, and you didn't buy it from the person who sold me a variegated Leprechaun (Truly Tiny) banana. It immediately turned green. I think they used some sort of chemical to force the variegation.
Kell, that is gorgeous. I would not be able to give that as a gift. I would have to keep it. Even to my daughter. LOL
Lakeside, I hope you let them know in the feedback. At least let prospective buyers know.
Jeanette
They like a tree trunk, or fence to grow more epiphytic roots. A place where old leaves collects, mulchy top soil.
I Just pulled that one I was talking about from the pond Jeanette, it has one white leaf on it, but the roots are strong. It's tragic looking.
This one must be one of the other types Carter was talking about. This one is from is from is from Hawaii. Right now it only has one sploch of white on the lower left leaf. See how it likes the fence?
Maybe it needs more light rj. I don't know which you mean as "the other type Carter was talking about", but since you pulled the one out, even with only one leaf, send it to me and I will see if I can get it to do something. I'll paypal the postage. Thanks,
(might shock it to actually get some care, lol)
Jeanette
Okay will do!
Thanks Randy. Let me know how much, address to send it, and when you send it so I can watch the post office for it.
Jeanette
Same address in Ione? I believe I still
Have it
Sending dmail.
Gas, have you gotten those 2 plants? If so, what are they? What did you pay for them? What do you think?
Jeanette
The 2 white ones I ordered have not arrived yet - any day now. 2 Pink Prinesss Philo. in the same order. I now have from another seller, a yellow varig. Monstera on the way. Maybe they are just using spray paint, we'll see.
LOL.
