Found this attached to a nursery flat in my greenhouse. What will it grow up to be? Will it emerge before winter?
Who might this be?
Well, I think it looks kind of like the Spicebush Swallowtail chrysalis. What do you think? Maybe there is some host plants around?

That's exactly what it is. There's a dz. or so young spicebushes on the floor under the bench I found it on.
Oh I am just too thrilled. I've been watching these cats from the first instar so I'm really proud to have found the chryalis. I have a book on BF and a book on cats but they don't show the chryalis stage.
Ooh, a dozen Spicebush plants, how exciting! Are they going into your yard? I just love those Spicebush cats! They are SO cute!
I have some held back to plant in my yard...should it EVER stop raining but the rest I sell to Native Plant Society members....or anyone else that comes to the nursery.
I have SB BF cats of all sizes munching and/or wrapped up in leaves.
Well, I love your ideas about getting more host plants out there! It's so cool when people help the butterflies...everybody should have host plants and nectar plants in their yard!
