Dyckia ID?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

I've recently began collecting Dyckia. I just love how they have the qualities of both bromeliads and cactus/succulents; my favorite plants. The Dyckia pictured is one of my best growers. It tripled in size and threw out tons of pups this summer. I just repotted 8 pups! I checked plant files and my plants looks like either D. Morris Hobbs, or D. Fosteriana. Can someone ID this plant for me? The plants looks a bit more red in the picture. It's more of an eggplant color...blackish maroon.

Well I looked at your plant one more time, could it be Dyckia Big Black? See photo I added.

Sure looks like it could be Big Black. Now that you mention it, I seem to remember the word "black" in the name. One difference that stands out in the photos however, is the spines seem a lot more dominant on my plant, but this could be an age thing. Thank you Turtlewalker. I may sell the pups when they are rooted and more mature and I'm sure buyers would want a name?!

Turtlewalker, how much sun does this plant get? water? fertilizer?

It can take full sun all day. Water when dry in summer and very little in winter. I do not fertilizer, they are re-pot almost evey year and moved up in pot size. I grow my plant hard.

zone10, if you ever have more pups would you dmail me?
