obviously I know little about either.
But have a small collection of begonias I am potting as houseplants - for the winter at least.
And I found a bergenia on sale - cheap!
could I plant a couple of begonias in with the bergenias as a potted plant arrangement??
Or do bergenias need to be in the ground - out doors -
Tryin to do right.
as you can see - Advice IS Needed!
HELP!! Can Bergenias be Houseplants with Begonias ??
I don't know anything about Bergenia's but found information in Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/149/ that says it is a perennial. Apparently they are normally used as a landscape plant but they take light shade as Begonia's would like so I say go for it! If you like the looks of it planted with the Begonia's, why not try it and see how it does?
I also googled and found this information: http://www.thegardenhelper.com/bergenia.html
I wouldn't try it, Bergenias are perennials. They are very tough plants hardy to zone 4 and I don't think they'd do well indoors. But if it was a cheap plant and you've nowhere to put it outside, I suppose you could try it!
Actually, they can. I helped to renovate a greenhouse and uncovered a huge clump of bergenia that were kept in Zone9-10 conditions inside. They were a bit stretched out from growing under something, but they were very alive and even had dead flower stalks.
Now that was an interesting post phalaeo. I would have said No, they won't do well inside. Wrong again! Thanks.
