Beautiful pictures Shive! I love the Tiger Swallowtail and the Great Spangled Fritillary!

Thanks pelletory!

Lily_love and peoniae - It's hard to identify the fritillaries without also seeing the underside of the wings. A lot of them look similar. Just from looking at the photos, peoniae's looks like the Great Spangled. Was it a large butterfly? And Lily_love's looks like the Aphrodite.

Thank you, Debra. I visited a friend who lives in North Eastern Tenn. There, I saw hundred of those G.F. on her Lavenders. A mesmerizing sight up on the Mountain.

Peoniae, love those Tiger Swallowtail. I spotted one flew over our area but didn't stop and nectar on my butterfly-bush. I was so disappointed then.

peoniae - The underside of your frit is similar to mine, but not quite the same. Here's the underside of the Aphrodite.

Lily_love, it looks like a Variegated Fritillary to me!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I'm so thrilled with this new discovery! Thank you Linda, I think I've seen Melanie or other member with the variegated frit. before. Thanks Barb. It's the first time, I'm learning of different types of frits. Do they all use Passiflora as hostplant?

Here's another one from this afternoon.

Well, I've seen the Variegated Fritillary use Maypop (Passilfora incarnata), but not other passies. They also use flax and violets.
