My big white chicken (the only light brahma I own) has finally started laying eggs at 20 weeks of age. It is a good size egg that is very light in color. The shell is very very thin and when you carefully pick it up to crack it open it feels like rubber. It doesn't really "crack" open. It's like pulling on rubber. The inside of the egg looks just fine.
The other 11 hens we have are golden comets and rhode island reds. Their eggs are brown with thick shells and crack normally. Why is this one chicken's egg so different in composition? Does it reflect a deficiency of some sort? They all eat the same laying mash. We do give them a little cracked corn and treats of veggies from the garden. They love tomatoes and such.
Will the eggs eventually firm up?
Rubber Egg ??
Producing a soft-shelled egg is very common in a new layer...some chickens lay them every once in a while. She will lay normal eggs...her reproductive system is just tuning up.
OK. Thanks so much for letting me know that.
We have gotten a few of those. Very funny looking.
