On MEM....lately she has looked like this starting to bloom. When fully open she doesn't always loose the marble effect...wonder why?
Odd Bloom
might be odd...but very unique and pretty

your Bloom is pretty, with the different colors

Ginger, have you had very hot dry days? You used the word "lately" which implies this is a recent phenomenon. What has changed since her blooms were normal? Fertilizer? Heat? Water? etc? Have you introduced new plants to the area especially members of the same family, such as tomatoes, peppers, Datura, eggplant, petunia? In Plumerias, viruses are responsible for color mottling in the flowers. I wonder if that could be the case with your Brug, especially if you have introduced other members of the Solanaceae Family that might be carrying a virus.
I don't know that much about Brugs but it does look like a virus to me too. There are so many different viruses going on these days with all our plants. Then because they look so different others want starts and unknowingly expose their other plants to them. Not to mention sending the virus from one state to another. I think I'd try researching it a little more before I shared it with anyone. Just my rambling thoughts.
Happy Gardening,

eww...never thought about it having a virus.. which is very easy to pass along... the excitment of see'n a pretty bloom made me forget my senses.. *S* ((which TOO is easy to do)) *LOL*
bettydee...can't really think of anything different going on. The "troops" do need feeding. It has been hot with some rain, but I usually water every other day unless we get a LOT of rain. There have been times when I might should water every day,but I worry about the well going dry as well as the light bill. I'll keep an eye on her to see if this continues.
Virus or not I think its beautiful!
IF it is a virus...what would be the best way to treat it before sharing?? (again..IF it's infected)
You throw it away, pot and all. There is not cure or treatment. That is, if it is infected. If the problem is due to weather, once the weather cools down some, the flowers should look normal again. If it is a fertilizer or soil problem, feed with complete fertilizer which contains all the micro-nutrients, or leaching the soil, test soil pH or replacing the soil completely.
oh that's so sad...to have to throw it away...
Odd and gorgeous.....I love variagated stuff! Congrats!
sure hope it is NOT a virus!!!
I E-mailed the pictures to Brenda (AKA seed_sprout) who is not only a friend, but also my former boss when the nursery was still open. She wrote back "If I am not mistaken. MEM has Ecuador Pink in her parentage. EP makes those color shifts for me in the GH usually during the winter. Maybe the weather change is doing it????" Hopefully that is what's going on as I really really like MEM and would hate to have to toss her.
