On 9/9/09, at 2:15 PM, my deer camera snapped a burst of shots that I think shows a hawk preying on a House Sparrow. What follows are four pics, the fourth being a crop of the "hawk".
This pic show 3 house sparrows drinking from my birdbath.
Hawk attack - I think
I'm wondering what the stripes are. Neat though Hack!
I vote hawk!! sure looks like a hawk-ish figure...
I guess the stripes are actually each feather in the wing. Yes, I'd say hawk.
How cool!
I sure wish I could see it in person. And when I do, I pray I'll have my camera!
Hack
pelle, wing feathers, I think you're right.
Hack
Hey Hack, I bet its the same bird your field cam caught last time, cant remember what kind right off, but he will be back, that first pic you got "had to be a kill", coming from behind the one sparrow like that.
It happens so fast that even if you are there you probably won't get much!
Burd, that was what I'm thinking, too. Resin suggested it may be either a Cooper's or a Sharp-shined hawk.
nanny, by the blur of the hawk, I figured I probably wouldn't have a chance to react fast enough for the attack (I'm probably lucky the deer camera got it), so I'm hoping to be able take some photos after the kill, while it's eating dinner. I still haven't gotten a nice clean photo of it.
Hack
I checked all around the bidebath and camere and didn't find any feathers. I guess it was a "to-go" order.
Hack
LOL!!
Good one! :-)
