Hey Y'all! I was given about 50 pounds of uncooked white rice in bags today. The bags contained weevils, so it was to be destroyed.
Can I give it to my chickens? Does it have to be cooked? Can I mix it in with their Scratch?
Can White rice be given to Chickens with their feed?
I don't know why you couldn't mix it with their scratch. The main nutrient content may, however, be from the weevils.
I don't know about contaminated food, but I give my girls white rice on occassion, they don't go crazy over it like they do brown rice but they will eat it and there should be no harm in it. mixing it is probably a better idea as you suggested. Hay
Thanks Guys, It seems that I got a lot more than I thought! When I looked in the back of my truck , I had over 200 pounds of rice. I had wild and white rice. Straight off the pantry shelf from outdated stock that had been in storage. Not contaminated with anything but weevils.
I took it home and got busy. I mixed it in with the scratch I had on hand and some dried peas from the grocery. My girls went crazy. As a matter of fact they left most of the corn laying on the ground, just so they could pick out the rice! This added with their grower starter should keep them fat and sassy , until I get them on a balanced laying diet.
they free range for 4 hours everyday, so I think they should be getting enough protein in their diets too. Im always looking for a source of non-medicated and non-harmone added feeds.
