Fianlly they have come up with a name for the disease that affects so many of us!!

CHAD - 'Compulsive Horticultural Acquisition Disorder'. Typical symptoms are 1.) impulse buying of any new plant encountered, 2.) buying it without having even the vaguest idea of where you are going to plant it, 3.) putting new plants in willy-nilly into the most convenient, available spot in the garden, 4.) eventually filling every available empty space, resulting in unmanageable overcrowding, and 5.) losing the lawn to 'bed creep', as beds are expanded in an attempt to relieve the overcrowding, while making space for new acquisitions. Other symptoms may include 'new plant envy', 'gardener's resentment', financial exhaustion, and a number of specific addictive behaviors, including hostaholicism, hemeroholicism, etc. Though not discussed, it appears that eventual loss of bladder and bowel control may presage the onset of insanity. No cure was offered.

The thing is, if i just up and croak one day .. whomever clears out my house won't have a clue as to what I have in seeds and plants .. they'll be throwing away a fortune.

Amen!

But I can't find a code for it in the DSM (diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders). How in the world will we ever get reimbursed for all those plants by our health insurers?????

You're a practical cynic, Ardesia!

Thank the Lord they finally recognize us! I wondered how long it would take 'the powers that be' to realize we CHADs are a real entity, with a real illness, that deserved a real name! Ok, fellow CHAD sufferers, go forth and support this disease - buy, buy, buy and trade, trade, trade! We don't want to lose what we've worked so hard to achieve!!!

How long now before the drug companies start marketing a pill we can ask our doctor for!

Hopefully NEVER!
