my pullets turned into cockerels....what do I do with them??

So, I'm almost 100% sure that 4 of my 6 Brahmas are roos. They aren't crowing yet but the feathers on their backs are growing very long and they have bigger combs than the other 2 and much redder faces. Is there any other conclusion to be made? And most importantly what should I do with them? I guess I could eat them but they all have names, and come when I call them, and fallow me around the yard, and my kids adore them......I guess what I'm trying to say is that they are pets. But I don't think I can keep 4 roos. I was suppose to have 1 roo and 5 hens. that is a 50% margin of error.

very disappointed,

I'm sorry. I understand. My 6 Ameracauna hens are now three hens, and three roos. My 6 Cochin hens are, like yours, 4 roos, and 2 hens. I was able to find a home for one Roo. I'm afraid I don't have a good answer. So far, at about 5 months, they all get along, but who knows.
From your picture, I see 2 that I'd say are roos, but that's just from the tail feathers, and I am NO kind of authority. I hope the experts will weigh in.....

Batflower: Did you buy them sexed? If so then shouldn't you be able to go to the place of purchase and get a refund or some more girls? I would sure try. Often the business want to keep the business and will respond positively. At least give it a try. I would be very unhappy with those results.

Is there a good 4H Club in your area? My Brahmas were shipped (didn't know they were going to do this) with some Rhode Island Red roos. I gave some to a couple of worthy 4H'ers and the rest went to an organic custom finisher. He raises organic produce and some organic cattle and chickens for folks who live in the city. I know, they will get eaten eventually, but they really will be free range organic so they'll get good treatment until then. And I just couldn't keep them. He's raising them for a friend of ours. He told her that he was going to keep one as a pet as he thinks it is extra pretty and was that alright with her. I think I'm good with that outcome =).

Good luck to you. It took me a couple of weeks of hard thinking to remember about 4H and then I was just lucky that a couple of the members wanted to do poultry and that it was the right time of the year. With the others i was just lucky that this friend said she would take them to the place she gets her veg from. I think it is a good idea to check with the supplier to see if they will take the males back or at least give a refund.

Maybe your kids might want to join 4H?

Don't Brahmas take a bit longer to mature to meat stage though? Just asking.

4H is a good idea. I have contacted the breeder who sold them to me. He will reimburse me for 3 of the roosters. The catch is, I have to go get the money....about 3 hours away. So it'll cost more in gas for the trip then the 15$ I'd be getting. I may go anyway though, just out of principal.

Batflower, send him a self addressed stamped envelope. That should be sufficient :)
