Exploding guinea eggs

Alfred Station, NY(Zone 5b)

Sooo.... after many weeks of a broody guinea sitting on infertile eggs (because we have no male guinea) guess what can happen?

POP! -- Quickly followed by a nauseating smell. I luckily was not home to witness this, but my husband was. I will probably have to be the one to very very very carefully gather up the remaining eggs and very very very carefully dispose of them. Hopefully the guinea won't start another clutch this late in the year.

I know what the smell was like because I was witness to a similar happening with a duck egg a few months ago. Gag!

I knew explosions could occur in the incubator, but under the hen? Oh, gross!

Apparently she was either getting off the nest or trying to get back on it, and jostled one of the eggs too hard. Given how rock hard guinea eggshells are, it must have been a ticking time bomb just waiting for a good bump.

The nest is now gone and guinea is happy I think not to have to sit on it anymore. :)

BLECK! Unfortunately we've witnessed that one. LOL
