We tend to think of each other as friends on Dave's and have trust in our relationships. We often use this site to vent our anger and frustration without realizing that non members can find and view it. If they are determined enough, they can turn it on you. While we may think it is obvious that something is a joke or exaggeration, someone else may not. Free speech is something we all take for granted, but in reality is very rare and only for a privileged few.

If I have inconvenienced, hurt or insulted anyone by my comments based on anger, frustration or misinformation, I deeply regret and apologise for it. I am sure that the parties involved are truly exceptional people and that anything that has happened to me or my poultry is my own fault. I for one will be very conscious of any comments in the future.

Jyl.. this sounds bad... I am sorry if something was constructed against you for your posts here. I hope all is okay.
DG is a wonderful place where we can vent our trials and tribulations, frustrations and achievements (in the chicken world) and know that like minds are here to console us. It's a sad day if that is now being used against us..

Oh dear! We support one another, let us know if we can be of any help to you.

Dartmouth, NS(Zone 6a)

please let us know if there is anything we can do. I'm rather new to this forum and all ready I think of you all as friends and look forward to reading what is going on in everyone's life. It seems obvious to me that when someone is down everyone tries to bring them up, and share a bit of the anger and frustration. I can't imagine anyone not getting that. :-(
wishing you the best,
Julie

This is a sad state of affairs. I've gone back and looked, and still have no idea what's gone on. Things get a bit heated at times, and I'm afraid I've been part of some of that. I try to keep things civil, but maybe I didn't succeed.
If I've caused you (or anyone else) any grief with my posts, I'm terrible sorry. And _if_ I have, I hope someone will let me know, so I can apologise properly.

In view of what seems to have happened to jylgaskin, perhaps we all need to ask Dave to close this forum to non-members like many of the others. It would be too bad; I remember how much I liked to read it before I joined, but we need to be free to speak out on our concerns without outside harassment. What do you think?

Bridgewater, ME

I was thinking the same thing,.I know this forum was so important to me when I first started thinking about having chickens and did not know a thing about them my friends here helped me greatly as I know you would any newbie,we here are like a family,I would come here before asking anyone else for information. But I don`t want to stop and think about everything I say or express here fearing someone outside this forum would not understand.I don`t know whats going on either but I hope it gets resolved soon.

This just makes me sick. Seems that little by little.. the joy in DG is being whittled away.. Now another member is under attack for sharing her pain and suffering with others that can actually understand?????? GIVE ME A BREAK!! The majority of the "pouplation" outside of DG thinks "it's just a chicken" and have no clue the attachment we have with our birds.

In the heat of the moment.. we ALL have said things that were a little less than gracious. I know when I had dead chickens I wasn't nice.. and no matter how strong or kind I may be.. I won't ever be nice about it when my chickens are killed needlessly... Especially when it's due to someone's neglect.

Los Gatos, CA

When I have a question about my chickens, I always come here first. Then I might google my question. Most of the time, among other things, I get a link back to my question on DG. So, other people can see my post. Someone who would know my e-mail, may be able to put two and two together.

As far as I am concerned, I take all posts that may refer to "what" happen to our chickens, as just the facts as you see them. They are your opinion, and no one can argue with your opinion.

And the fact that you don't send ugly e-mails to others and just vent to us here on the forum shows that you mean to no harm to anyone.

Free speech is for us all.

Maybe our posts should come with a disclaimer at the bottom, in small print. :)
hang in there.

Ferndale, WA

I have probably been the harshest and most outspoken of all, Never have I meant any harm to come to anyone on the forum, or even those outside the forum. I have however always been passionate about those who bring harm to our friends here because they take no responsibility for the actions of their unbriddled animals. I will with hold that passion in the futrure if it is going to bring pain for anyone here. But I don't have to like it. the irresponsible actions of some irk the hell out of me. Haystack.

Personally JYL I apologize to you if I have caused you any pain at all. HAY

I hope Dave makes Poultry and Livestock a member-only forum.

Richmond, TX

Is there something we should do to initiate the process?

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

If youall remember he did that less than a year ago and we all asked/begged for him to allow us all back in..
I was so dissapointed because at the time I truly could not afford my subscription. Someone actually gifted it to me.. it got us over a major rough spot in out lives.. And I thank this person again..

Now to posting.. we all must realize whether the forum is open or closed what we write in set in stone.. it will be here forever. We must be carful who we slander.. or come close to.. we must be causous of laying out our "war" plans in writing in a public forum.. even paid, it's still public. We all must realize that the long arm of the law can get us.. even through Dave, I am sure he is not going to throw his body in front of us when it was us speaking.. I am so dissapointed that this has happened.. but this particular person was pretty ticked and my money is she would have paid even the mini subscription which I think is still only $5. just to find out what was being said.

So.. please do some real serous thinking before we ask to be on lock-down.

I am disappointed but I hate the alternative more, I vote.. leave it as is..
Please don't slam me.. this is only my personal opinion.. .

Thanks Fran: I totally respect what you said. I have been very outspoken on some things, I'm a passionate guy. However as I reconsider all things, I must agree, we should leave it as it is. It really is okay to have strong opinions, but it is not okay to threaten, or to speak in threatening ways. I have been guilty of that and can only speak for myself. I need to stay more in control of my emotions and behave more like a civil being in spite of how I feel about issues. Most of you here on the forum are very good about how you put things. We just need to stay civil and be in control of what we say. Haystack

I guess you are both right, it's up to us to behave. And I do remember how much I liked reading this forum before I was given a membership. The poultry and livestock people are always so entertaining! We wouldn't want to deprive our fans.

Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

This makes me sick.

Conroe, TX

From what I understand this forum was closed to outside posting some time ago and only members can post. Others can still read it though. Not sure if Dave opened it back up for non-members to post or not. I think the reason then for closing it were problems with non members posting bad things.

Hope all turns out well.
