I rooted leaves!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I ordered 2 beautiful Begonias from Logees- Curly Fireflush and Midnight Sun. Alas, after a week, they were very droopy, and the week after that they were nearly dead. Logees did give me a refund, and they said that they ought to have grown well on my windowsill, perhaps they never got over the shipping journey.

Anyway, I salvaged a few leaves and rooted them. I also took a small rhizome of Little Darling that I have and a few other leaves of my favorite begonias, whose names I unfortunately don't know.

What a wonderful feeling to start a new plant.

And thanks to Hcmcdole, I got great instructions, and put perlite into small cups in a salad container.

How long should I wait for my babies?

What's neat is when the leaf throws up a pup while it is still on the plant. It doesn't happen a lot but it does from time to time.

Here is Emerald Star as an example:

Hi, I'm new here but if the begonia does shoot up a pup, what do you do with it? Is this a new plant and can you root this? LOL alday

You can cut the leaf and try rooting it. If it roots then you have a new plant.

Here are two leaves that were water rooted. (Rexes are quite easy to start this way.)
