Tropical hibiscus coming in for winter

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I have read the previous questions and answers, and I'm sorry to be dense. But I'm really not sure what I should use to avoid any insect problems when bringing in the plants. Is there some sort of a dunk I can do with water and insecticidal soap. We can't buy most of the Bayer products in NY.

My hibiscus are from the Dupont co-op. Most are about one foot tall, and have bloomed. I see no visable insects, but I want to be sure.

Inside they will be overwintering in a sunny bathroom under a skylight. I had one overwinter last year, and it never lost it's leaves, and did have a flower here or there.

Can someone please take me step by step what I should do to bring them safely inside? If so I will be ever so grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi I to over winter some hibiscus along with many other tropicals,,and what I have always done before I bring them indoors for the winter ,I have sprayed all my plants off in my drive way with Avid put into a sprayer that is hooked up to my hose,,,I do not have problems with insects being on the plants in the house when i bring them in,,I spray Avid for the tiny spider mites that you dont see on the plants all plants outside have them for the most part ,but usually are kept in check from other bugs preying upon them,,but than you bring them inside and those bugs that were keeping the mites in check are no longer their so than the spider mites start to take over and damage your plants even kill them sometimes,,but anyways Avid is a great spray to use on them before they come in your home for the winter,,Avid must be used outside!!!!! and is exspensive but really is the only thing that really works good,,sorry not a fan of the soap it just really does not work that good!!! Jay. p.s- Avid you will only find for sale online..

I will look for Avid online then. I was told that tropical hibiscus are sensitive to some insecticides, so I was afraid to use any until I found out which ones. I have a few other houseplants to bring in, and I'm sure it will be good for them too.

Thank you so much!
