Enlighten me!

What's up with this Mockingbird? Do you think it got into some blueberries? They don't grow around here... maybe someone left out a pie to cool, lol
I've never seen a mockingbird or any other bird for that matter with this coloring on its head.
There is another picture to come that shows a little of the color under its wing too.

Wild grapes perhaps?

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

Do you have poke weed, poke salad, poke berry in your area?

I've been trying to think of plants around here that might have stained this bird & couldn't come up with any. We are in a terrible drought and there isn't much growing
... come to think of it maybe somebody is putting out grape jelly. I haven't put any out for weeks now. LOL @ myself, I forgot all about grape jelly ^_^

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Opuntia fruit is another possible in a dry area - they're certainly very good at staining fingers!! And a good source of moisture as well as food for a thirsty bird.

Looks to be a young bird, they're often less experienced than adults at keeping their plumage clean (does that remind you of anything??!)

I'd agree with Frank: Poke berries. My bluebird juveniles get into it all the time.
