Mandevilla x amabilis 'Alice Dupont'

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Here is a real beauty that I purchased from Logees in March of this year. It is still just a baby, but what a beauty she will be when she grows up. Enjoy! This was taken yesterday morning.

And here she is this morning....another beauty opened and more coming. Love these Mandevillas...they bloom their little hearts out.

For anyone who may be interested, this plant is in full sun all day and gets watered daily.
I got two plants at the same time and the otherone looks terrible and is almost dead. I have no idea what the problem is, but at least I have one. And, the other is now in the GH hospital, hoping it will recover. It has been sick since birth. LOL JB

I put this up this morning only to find in Dave's Plant File, there is conflicting information regarding the species of Alice Dupont. Here is how it is listed in DG Plant File.
Mandevilla x amoena 'Alice Dupont instead of the way the plant is marked from Logees as Mandevilla x amabilis 'Alice Dupont'.

In checking the DG Plant File I found llisted Mandevilla x amabilis 'Rita Marie Green'
with a picture that does not match what I have for that genus and species as sold by Logees.

I have written to them to ask for clarification. Do I have an Alice Dupont or a Rita Marie Green? I am so confused because someone has the species mixed up here and I need to know before I start to propagate it. Anyone have any suggestions? The picture on DG looks like the Alice but the species is not the same. The Rita does not look like my plant. There is a definite difference. Help me guys and gals please.

http://www.monrovia.com/learn/plant_catalog/detail.php?id=1193 Take a look at this! It is Pink Parfait Mandevilla
Mandevilla x amabilis 'Rita Marie Green' PP #11787 a real beauty for sure.

It is accurately listed in DG Plants if I am reading this correctly.
So, the Alice Dupont species is now my question still unanswered.

I don't see any reason to think it's 'Rita Marie Green', your flowers do not look right and there are other cultivars of M. x amabilis out there, it's not the only one so even if your plant came with the wrong cultivar name there are other options besides that one. Your plant looks like 'Alice Dupont' and in cases like this people are more likely to get the cultivar name right than the species so I suspect it is really Alice. Also, I could be mistaken, but I think the species x amoena and x amabilis are synonyms of each other so you'll sometimes find it listed one way and sometimes the other (and on Monrovia's website, they list both species names for 'Alice Dupont' http://www.monrovia.com/learn/plant_catalog/detail.php?item_number=6120 )

ecrane, Hi, I just found this and so the information on DG is correct, just confusing.
You are exactly correct about the species being synonyms...this link shows it. I should have just ask you before I did all this time consuming research. You are so good. Thanks. I think we should put the patent No. up on DG Rita Marie Green, don't you? It is a beauty, but the PP is up there. Now that this is settled, hope you have a wonderful weekend and your weather is good. Are you anywhere near L A ? My son graduated from USC. I spent alot of time there because he got Hodgkins in his second year and I had to be with him when he got his Chemo. He survived thanks to that wonderful medical center and Dr. Alexandria Levine. He was her guinea pig back then. It worked.
Thanks again for you wonderful information.

Glad to help! Yes, if you've got the patent info for Rita Marie Green I would definitely add that to Plant Files--I think the patent field is a fairly new addition to PF so the more people stick patent info in there the more complete the info will be eventually.

Hope you have a great weekend too! Our weather is really nice--it had been hot for a few days but now it's cooled down into the 70's which is my favorite temperature! I'm about 6 hrs north of LA in the San Francisco Bay Area--glad I'm not in LA right now with all the fires going on!
