a few weeks ago I showed my monarch cats to a neighbor and his children, who thought it was cool.
Tonight Andrew (4) brought me a caterpillar he found so Ican raise it. A quick search... thanks daves garden, I found out it is an Io moth. :)
made a new cage out of a plastic tub & netting for this guy.. and gave it a small hibiscus branch.
My first Moth baby.

the io cat is all wrapped up in Hibiscus leaves. How long befor it emerges? anyone know?

dunno Ruth, but it's good that its wrapped up--they deliver a very painful sting as I found out last summer when I grabbed a crepe myrtle branch that had one on it. I'm glad the 4 year old wasn't stung.

I showed the Dad the web site for IDing cats and warned him that there are many cats that give painful stings. There is one that likes Oleander and I had several bad encounters with them ( I seem to be allergic to stings, bites thank goodness for Benadryl) I ripped-dug out 6 oleander bushes because of them.
