Need help! newbie

I have a hoya compacta. I bought it,replanted it in a hanging basket, and put it outside. It did great for a while, now two of the "ropes" have a sandy looking dry film on the leaves. Now these leaves are beginning to shrivel(even more than natural) and die. The stems look good and are strong. I have now moved it into the house and "scrubbed" all these leaves with Q-tips to remove the "film". I don't know what I need to do for it now.I also don't know what this could be. Could someone please point in the right direction.

Where was it growing "outside"? Full sun? And you did water it?

Have you taken it out of the pot to see the roots? Just soak the plant so you don't 'rip' any roots and pull it out of the pot....are the roots alive?

No idea of the filmy stuff on the leaves....you have a sandstorm?

A picture of the plant is really needed to help diagnose what might be wrong with the plant.

Catz: Check out this picture of the vine I just cut off of my Hoya compacta. The vine was dying and the leaves drying and shriveling up along the stem ... I don't know what caused it, I need to look more closely at the top of the soil, it could be that some of the soil has washed away exposing roots which have dried out and died making the vine die as well. After I cut off this vine, I began cutting it into pieces and did find some that looks to still be viable so I've potted the pieces up to see if they will root. I find with the compacta being so thick, I have to lift the vines and really get underneath the leaves to make sure water gets down into the soil and through to the roots. My plants all stay outside on the deck so I use the garden hose for watering and this one may just have had water run off the vines instead of getting down into the soil.

Yes mine looks like that with white dead spots. The "film" hasn't returned yet so maybe it could have been the soil residue like yours.
