Pop Up Greenhouse - setup in garage with lights/heat?

North Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

I am considering purchasing one of the plastic pop up greenhouses to set up in my garage for overwintering plants.

Our garage door has the small row of windows across the top of the garage door and it fronts to the south/southwest so there is a bit of natural light in the garage through the winter months.

I know I would require additional lighting but I'm unsure of just what would be needed and most importantly, what would be safe to use in a smallish (6X6 or 8X8) enclosed area. I plan to use a small electric heater to maintain temps of around 50 degrees or whatever is recommended for maintaining plants through the winter.

Would a unit or two of the t5 lighting fixtures with stands provide enough light to maintain the plants. The HID lights say they give off a lot of heat so unsure if they could even be used in a setup such as I envision.

If anyone has had any experience with such a setup or could comment on my plan, I'd deeply appreciate hearing your comments and or suggestions.

My thanks for your time.

Mary

What a neat idea to set up in the garage. Never thought of it. If you use an electric heater, I would make sure that it has a thermostat since you might have more heat gain from the windows than just ambient temperature provided by the garage or by your supplemental lights.
