I bought these about one month ago from Violetbarn.com. I bought about 35 plants. Most are growing. Many have buds, and I'm checking on the buds about 35 times a day to see when they'll open up into flowers!
About 5 plants have curled leaves, and the leaves feel kind of brittle. One strep's leaves turned brown on the edges, and I'm pretty certain that one cannot be saved.
Can these be saved?
I've been watering them very minimally, about aevery 4-5 days, and I have river rocks at the bottom to allow drainage. A few days ago was the first time I watered with a bit of DynaGrow fertilizer in the water, but this curly problem began about 2 weeks ago.
Thank you,
Ellen
PS- if the plants can't be saved, can I root a leaf and get babies, or is it too sick?
Strep & Kohleria dying? Leaves curled?
do you have rock or pearlite on the bottom of the pots?they might be to wet?if you think they might be wilty, you can bag them for a little while to see if that helps. the leaves curling down does not mean there is something wrong, some just do that,

Yes, I have rocks at the bottom thanks!
The curled leaves feel hard, almost brittle- they don't seem healthy, but I don't know for sure.
Ok, I'll try to bag them, thank you.
maybe too much fertiliser and less watering, dry out them out inbetween waterings

My first thought is too much soil for such a little root system............plus they need to be domed I would think until they root system develops more. I stay in 3 ounce pots or less until they have really developed a good root system and then move up to a 2 1/4" square where they stay for at least 4 months.
They really don't look that bad. Some Streps. do have slightly more brittle leaves than others.I agree curling under doesn't always mean there is a problem.Letting them dry out in between watering is key. Also,if the little center leaves are browning, flush them and cut back on fertilizer.Brown on the edges sounds a lot like too much heat or not enough humidity.
Bonnie,Jim and Gail know a lot more than I do!! ^_^ I am just adding a few other possibilities.
