Most of my hibiscus buds are green, however, one plant is producing a few hibiscus buds that emerge yellow. From past experience I know that this yellow bud will not bloom and will drop.
Does anyone know what causes this? Thanks, Snug, :o{
What Causes Hib Buds to start out Yellow
From what can appreciate through your photo it seems to have some sort of nutrient deficiency, that's what I notice from what I could see from the small part of the leaf that came out on the photo, you should take close-uup photos of the leaves and the hole plant if you can and post it to see if anyone else has an opinion of what could be causing this bud drop.

May I ask what fertilizer you're using if any, and if so, is it a low phosphorus type like Miracle Grow All Purpose ( 24-8-16 ) fertilizer. Just trying to gather information to see if anyone on the forum can figure out whats going on with that particular hib of your.
Also how many times you water it and if left to dried out between watering for periods of times, and what are the temp. in your area. There are a few factors that can cause bud drop, just have to zero in on which one is the cause of yours.

cooler night time temps will do this also,,,specially when hibiscus are use to 60 plus degrees at night than you start getting a few nights that want to get down in th lower 50s at least this is what some of my hibiscus do ,not all just a few of them tho probably depends on variety!
I am having a problem with one of my hibbies' blooms. They turn brown and never open. I had several blooms do this on this particular hibiscus. The foliage of the plant looked good; there was even a pretty open flower on it, but them about six or seven blooms that turned brown and never opened. This happened a couple of weeks ago so I don't have a picture.
We have finally gotten a couple of good rain showers after a very long summer drought so I'm hoping my hibbies will perk up and bloom, bloom, bloom.
Or it can also be sunburn. Has it been in the shadow and now in full sun?
Wilfred, again thank you for your interest in responding to my question. I want to mention first that I keep my hibiscus indoors. I would love to have them outside, however, our destructive insect population here in this parat of Virginia is very high. I spray neem oil on my inside hibiscus about every 10 to 14 days as a preventative, however, I did see though one thrip on one of my hib leaves at the top of the plant anyway. Perhaps this could be the culprit.
In response to your question about fertilizer, I am aware that the NPK (Nitrogen/ Phosphorous/Potassium) levels in hibiscus should be low in Phosphates (P). I use HVH special blend hib fertilizer including their specially blended hibiscus soil and have had good results thus far.
I keep my hibs in a sunny west-facing window including inside grow-lights. I also water them from the bottom. I fertilize them each time I water--perhaps, I'm using too much fertilizer? It may be a good idea to flush accumulated/build-up of salts with distilled water more often. In any event, again I appreciate your interest. I think I may have fertilized them too much, as I usually kill plants with too much attention. Thanks, Snug, :o)
Sounds like you are a very good Mother to your plants, Snug. The nicest thing about this site is the learning process. Can't believe how much I didn't know a couple of months ago. Had been feeding mine 20-20-20 for more years than I want to admit.....& they survived. Also, let them grow to 6' or more without trimming them back. Am amazed at how much better they look & bloom after cutting them back. Bigger is not better! Please keep us posted on your progress.
