I have this spotted basil , and was wondering what kind it might be.
looks and tastes rather like plain old sweet basil.
I have not seen a spotted one before.

That is what happens when you grow common green Basil and Opal Basil near each other. You get a blend (seed crop).
It is fine for making sauces & salads, like any other Basil!
Pretty! Looks like you've got a solid purple in that pot also (maybe Purple Opal, maybe something else -- there are a bunch of different cultivars). Sometimes when you're growing out a purple-leafed basil, you'll get a few green &/or broken color "sports." Save the seeds from everything in that pot, and you'd get quite a selection next year!
