My dh and I candled the silkies eggs last night, she was suppose to be laying on 5 eggs and there was seven and this little tiny one,the other silkie has been laying eggs in her nest,I had seen them togather but thought nothing of it.The other one must be young because she laid two a few weeks ago they were really soft shelled and fell apart. So I don`t know how old these other eggs are.All the eggs looked like they were fertile of coarse this is my first at candling.I think they are due to hatch the 15th.They will be silkie and cochin,I wish they were all silkie but thats ok they will be cute little chicks. Will she stay on the others untill they hatch? There may a few days or maybe a week untill the others would hatch. She was the one that set for 25 days on two eggs that turned out to be infertile. The picture is blurry but thats a nickel beside it to show you how small it is

Really tiny egg
It is a little bit of a problem if you have a staggard hatch with a broody....she should take her chicks off the nest within about 48 hours of the first hatch---so she would leave the later eggs uncovered. If she stayed with them, she would be neglecting the older chicks...
Catsy is absolutely right, thats why a bator is a good thing to have, that way you can transfer them to it as you notice her leaving with her brood. Good luck Green.
I don`t have a bator wish I did.I seen one that held three eggs but it was pricey.
Would someone look on ebay and tell me if this is worth the money, its under egg incubators, its 21.57 free shipping, new GQF it holds 5 batam eggs or 3 large eggs,6 inches high 110 volts 7 watt bulb.It would help in a situation like this with the extra eggs that just need a few more hours or days.
Silkie Cochin mixes come out to be very pretty. What color variety Cochins and what color Silkies do you have?
When I went out this afternoon the younger silkie had taken three of the older ones eggs and was sitting on them, she went back outside when I came in and later dh went out and they were back under the broody again. Is this good for the eggs to be moved like that?Is the younger one trying to go broody or what?
