Welcome to the Fuchsia forum!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Due to the sustained interest that the topic has generated, we are pleased to give you the Fuchsia Forum!

We have given it subscriber only status, just as most of the other plant-specific forums are.

As I do not own a fuchsia plant to post an image of, the tulip tree will have to suffice.

Enjoy!

Very cool blossom - we can pretend it's a rare Fuchsia...

This forum arrives in time for a great number of us who will be propagating and/or overwintering.
I believe this information will prove invaluable for many folks who haven't yet ventured into the world of Fuchsias because they've only been considered as annuals.
A hardy Fuchsia list would be wonderful, too.

If the members who show up over here want to compile a list of helpful posts and links, I'll be happy to sticky a Fuchsia FAQ at the top of this page. Just remember that any off-DG links that are included should be checked regularly to make sure that they are still working. Nothing is more disheartening to a newbie to click on a link expecting to get help, and get the 'dreaded Error 404' instead.

Something else that I'd like for you all to do is to compose a 'welcome' statement along the lines of these:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/broms/all/
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/dahlias/all/

Not all forums have these, but the ones that do are very nice looking. As I'm sadly uneducated in 'fuchsia speak' maybe a group collaboration would be nice.

Thanks again, Melody - your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Oh, another thing that ya'll might like to do to get some activity going...give me a list of fuchsia-specific threads in other forums that we can re-locate here.

The one on the DG forum has lots of good information and I'll move it over here in a few days, but I want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to see it. We always have proverbial 'flies on the wall' that may not have said anything, but are following the conversation.

Melody, Thank you for the forum! The timing is fantastic!

I agree with Katye that now is starting to be the time that fuchsias are in the forefront of the gardening interests in our area...they are blooming their best when many things have faded and it is the perfect time to propigate! Then comes making sure that they will be here for us to enjoy again next year. I can't wait for information on these topics from people who have had more experience than I!

In addition, I finally have time to take some pics of mine this week, so will enjoy having a place to officially share them!

Thanks Melody! We're official now! Thanks Pedrick'sCorner & Hummer_girl for getting this forum going.

Rarejem, you mentioned this is the perfect time to propagate. I'm happy to hear that - was wondering if it's too hot now...

Thanks.

Liz

Liz,

I am far from an expert, but I have found that all of my cuttings seem to take best in the last week of August or the first couple of weeks of September. We are most likely a little cooler than you are, but that is my experience with our climate. My cuttings don't seem to mind 80 degrees or so as long as their feet are wet.

I know in your excitement, it is easy to stay on this thread, but you've got a whole blank forum to fill up. Why not start a propagating topic for questions and answers?

(It is sort of like the first middle-school dance where no one wants to get on the floor first. :o)

Thank you Melody. I'm new to fuchsias and this thread I know will have many knowledgeable suggestions. As always DGers are the best with sharing. A hugh thank you to the people who suggested it and worked to get it started. Elaine

Melody - too funny!
I think this can be appropriately deemed the "Thanks so much!" thread.
Truly appreciative of the opportunity to increase knowledge, share experiences & possibly spark interest in gardeners new to Fuchsias.

Yee haw, we've got a Fuchsia Forum!
You know I've been working on this for a while ;-D
I am so excited, I can't decide where to begin.
I was out working and came in to all of these new threads already!
