Man it hit 71 degrees yesterday and 76 today. I couldn’t see myself working, not a work any ways. I tried to bump into a layoff for the week but it didn’t happen. I was able to go on call for the week and got yesterday & today off so there is hope for the rest of the week. Not likely though as I go on vacation in two weeks. I must be tired as I’m rambling.
I found a bunch of treated 2x8x12’s & 16’s, 2x6’s & 8’s under my deck along with a bunch of treated 2x2’s so I started to build a 12 x 16 foundation. I dug the ground & squared the base and secured it 2 ft in the ground. I had 8 ft ¾” rebar so I whacked those in half and buried those 2ft down every two ft along the sides of the base.
I bought 1” x 10’ schedule 80 PVC and sanded all connections with 60 grit then primed & glued. I tried to paint it white with PVC paint but it wasn’t happening. $7.89 a can three cans later it didn’t even look white. (you will see the zebra effect in the pics where I gave up). I will probably cover all PVC & the wood ends with the pile of foam pipe insulation that I found in my basement to slow down U.V. rays that make PVC brittle over time & pad the poly cover. I hooped the rebar and leveled PVC with the bottom of the 2x8 base then secured with pipe clamps.
I cut a treated 2x8 for the back wall base plate to run studs on to mount the back wall ply board. I then cut my white studs for the back wall. (I don’t need no stinking treated here it’s not touching the ground) I’ll paint it white to slow rot. No door on this end, maybe frame for fans if needed. In the corners I cut studs 2 ft high to double as a stud for the treated 2x2 wall brace that will run the length of the greenhouse & secure to the hoops. These are braced also for the back wall. I pipe clamped any PVC that touched wood.
This was an impulsive act when I woke up yesterday. (More like Spastic).
I have to finish this quick as I was not planning on building this and it is taking away from other projects I have going. I’ll get the back & front ends done with plywood, finish running the knee high brace along the hoops & run a 16 ft angle iron along the top for snow support. I need to look online for 12 mil poly woven greenhouse material to cover it with. I do know a commercial grower in Ludington so maybe I will see what he recommends or have him get it for me.
Joel.
I'll add it to that blog thing I started when I get some time so you can see the final result.

Easy Girl,
I just read your prior post. Sounds like yer hurting.
Might be the morphine or vicodens your eating giving you the burst.
Watch the back. Get the Husband on the other end of that rototiller. Play with the irises but don't forget yer probably whacked out of your gourd from eating all the pain killers. Don't want to do more damage.
Thanks for the support. I have some ?'s to ask about this. I'll email you when I get some sleep. I have to hit it in case I do have to go in tomorrow.

Hi Gloria,
Are you having the indian summer also where your at?
Looks like a great project. How lucky to find all that wood under your deck. Nice find. Keep up the good work and enjoy the nice weather. Supposed to be nice and dry all weekend.
Brenda
well I think its trying for an Indian summer my fingers are crossed real tight ;0)
Gloria
im hoping for Indian summer in OCT--this is just left over summer!! ;)
Thanks Brenda,
I left this house four years ago and pretty much used it as a storage barn for everything I acquired throughout the years.
It didn't help that I had paid for storage units for twenty some years in Grand Rapids, Grand Marais, Pontiac, Pentwater, Traverse City, Boca Raton & Vail while I lived in Europe or bounced around the States.
If I were smart I would have emptied one unit at a time and sorted one at a time. Instead, I spent half a summer trailoring back everything and dumping it here to go through later. Heck I forgot I had some storage units as I always had the payment direct deposited. Now I’m overloaded. I have crap everywhere.
I am now organizing my life and have settled down. I’m gutting the house & cleaning it inside & out. and working on the property to make it a normal home. This was a brand new home mind you. It just got filled up from a pack rat with thirty some years of life’s trash & treasures. I'm finding & throwing away all kinds of stuff that I wonder why I kept or paid to store. I look at something I find and think back of when I stashed it and what I wanted it for. Some of it I still want & have plans to do what I originally wanted to. I have $1,500 in top of the line cookware that I shipped back from Germany unused. All stuff I wanted for the home but was never home to use it.
Last winter I dumped a lot on Flea Bay & local auctions and raised $11,000 for a cancer victim in our town.
A lot has gone to a new local business called Habitat for humanity.
All the wood that was found was either from prior projects that I never finished/started or left over from projects that I did complete. It is a long story but I want to start living like a normal person.
Now that I’m getting into gardening I will start using what I haven’t gotten rid of towards garden projects. Thus the cold/hot frames, hoophouse and others.
Now I’m saying I wish I wouldn’t have throw away or sold a lot of that stuff. Darn, you can’t win for losing.
I’m rambling again. It’s been a long day.
Good night Folks.
You know what you need? You need to build a great big pole barn. That will help you get organized. That was the first thing we built when we bought this farm. We had an old barn and a big double garage but it wasn't enough. THe pole barn houses our tractor and mowers and tools etc. The garage only holds garden stuff and the old barn now has our chickens in it. :)
That must have been some great cookware set for that price!! Do you cook?
Don't forget freecycle in you are just pitching stuff. It's good to recycle a lot of stuff and someone is usually looking for whatever it is you're tossing.
Brenda
Joel....uh i was just wondering....can you please send some of that crazy energy my way..... Thanks ;)
man I could use some Too :0)
