I have tall porterweed over 6' tall frequented by hummers, swallowtails, julias, yellow sulphers and monarchs. Great plant. Grows fast, will freeze back.
Porterweed for hummers and butterfly
i have both red and purple and willing to share.......I've heard there is a orange. What colors do you have?
also - I have loads of lantana (dallas red) jatropa, milkweed, turenia, turnera buttercup, red pentas (small & giant), powder puff shrub, red shrimp plants, mexican blue bells, yellow bells, abelia (new just starting some growth after planting), hamelia patens & jasmine (shrub), blue salvia, purple sage.
This is my first year raising cats -monarchs & queens, I have lost track of how many bfs we have released, it has to be over 100. :)
Woo Hoo!!!! Super count, love it. Maybe we will have a good migration count this year too.
Ruth,
I have all purple. The one salmon color will not grow. Don't know what the problem is.
Congrats on the monarch releases. I've had 75 so far this year, along with zebras and swallowtails.
I went out cat hunting this morning and was floored by how many I found 15 big fat ones :) on the west side of house along a fence.
I have milkweed inside my fenced yard and out on the east side of the house - strange.....didn't find a single cat outside my yard on the east side of the house.
I haven't planted any of the zebra or swallow tails host plants yet, but I see swallowtails, sulfurs, queens, and a few others I don't know the names of sipping in my garden.
Me too Ruth. I also collected 12 Monarch eggs from only 3 or 4 MW plants. I stopped after that because I have had vertigo this week and bending over to look underneath leaves was not fun. I looked briefly in the front yard and saw a few more, so I think the Monarchs are on the increase in our area. I know I have seen two or three every day lately.
