I was so excited I could hardly go to sleep last night after a phone call saying that I really need physical therapy and two cortisone shots in my knee!!!
Just for a second opinion I sent a disc of my MRIs to my cousin at the medical center in Houston to see what he thought about my knee. Being a great Orthopedic surgeon, he said not yet!!! I will switch doctors to him but don't even have to go to Houston any time soon. He will be here in 3 weeks to see the family. And, the best part is that Taft doesn't have much in town but we do boasts of one of the best physical therapist anywhere around. So..........I am leaping with joy about starting physcial therapy after I get my cortisone shots in my knee.
The only reason I posted this is because I have told everyone i was having surgery. It never occurred to me that a second opinion would be different from the first surgeon.

2nd Opinion Says No Knee Surgery!!!!
That's good news. A nurse I work with had that done with very good results.
Oh, that's great! No surgery is ALWAYS a good thing. So glad to hear that...always get a second opinion any time somebody says operation...even a third is not a bad thing! Yahoo and Yipee for YOU!
That's great.....but remember what I told you about PT. DO IT!!! LOL!! Seriously you need it. I probably wouldn't have my limp if I had done what I was supposed to do.
And the shot does work wonders. For the first 24 hours it does hurt, but after that it's wonderful!!
I have cortisone shots in my knee but done by my local doctor. This doctor says he can 'do a better job' in getting them in the right place...................
I might even finish packing boxes today and only check in once a day instead of 10 times a day.......want to start really catching up on potting up!!!
Thanks everyone!!!
oh how wonderful, always great when you don't need surgery. good for you. lol
bonnie
thats awesome news gail
Great!! That's like getting a last minute reprieve!!! I hear the shots work real good with PT. Wish I were there, I'd take you out to celebrate!!!! Lou
Oh Gail,I am so happy to hear that!! Nobody wants surgery unless it's a last resort.
Lynn ^_^
Happy to hear no surgery for you! PT has worked wonders for me!! Got a good one this time......................wish you the same! Good for you...2nd opinions are sooooo
worthwhile..:)
bbon
Yup!!! I am a happy camper for sure and love all of you just for caring!!
I am glad that I sent out all those boxes today of african violets because they needed to be gone anyway, but I never would have parted with them if I had known I wasn't having surgery.........this is great for me!! Some clean shelves I have!
Yeah! That means you can still come to the show!!!!
I know.........I am sooooooo happy today!!!
Your shelves won't be clean for long I'll bet.
That's wonderful news Gail!
Great news, Gail. I'm very happy for you. I bet you're smiling from ear to ear.
Take care!
Pat

Connie :)
That is wonderful news! My physical therapist FIXED my back after I slipped and fell on the kitchen tile last summer. He owns the physical therapy place near the hospital close by. So happy for you.
I am so happy for you, Gail! That is a great blessing. Now you can enjoy your plants and not have to worry.
Connie
I just loved it when the 2nd opinion said, "Gail, surgery is serious and you aren't young"............I laughed!!!
LOL!!! Should have told him you wanted a second opinion on what age is considered "not young" LOL
As long as he was saying, "No surgery yet"...........I wasn't about to change his mind!! He is coming in next weekend with his family to see other family here and giving me my cortisone shots.............can't wait.
Gail, glad to hear that you don't need surgery.
DH had to get a cortisone shot at his last Dr. visit. I didn't know if he was going to pass out or hit the Dr. Very painful but after about 3 days the shot is easing the pain. He now has bursitis and tendinitis. Not much we can do about that at this point.
I have had cortisone shots in my knee and the doctor deadens everything before he gives the cortisone shot...........so it wasn't too bad........and it helped my bursitis a lot, too.
They sprayed something on his shoulder to freeze and numb it as the needle was going in but it didn't help. I am just so happy that you can get a shot and forget about the other. Awesome!
Tell him to find another doctor to give the next injection. The docs should always numb the area first very good before putting in a cortisone shot. Poor guy!!
The problem with those numbing shots is . . . the shot really only numbs the surface tissue. If you are having a needle or shot stuck deep inside - the shots don't help numb the inner tissues. At least, they didn't for me. Either time.
True.......but don't remind me (LOL)
That is awesome news, Gail!! Always avoid surgery if you can. But be a good girl and follow thru on the therapy. You may want to ask your dr about doing some gentle yoga exercises for your legs, just to keep the muscles and joints in limber shape, to further protect the knee area.
Hey, that is wonderful! Physical therapy is very helpful and I know you will be doing cartwheels very soon:)
So happy for you!
Pat
Aw.....blushing...............thanks as I know you know how excited I am!!!!
Gail, that's great news! I wish you to stay pain-free and well! Take good care of yourself.
