Sorry everyone, but I'm a bird idiot. I can probably name about 5 birds that I actually know- one is a flamingo. As for normal birds, I haven't a clue. My neighbor's daughter brought over this bird tonight with a broken wing hoping I could save its life. I am quite sure I have no bird-saving skills, but I am curious what it is. Sorry if it is very obvious, but I was recently told what a robin was. That's how little I know of birds. :) Thanks in advance, your wisdom is much appreciated!
CLOSED: Mystery bird, anyone know what it is?
I think that is called a Sora, and if it is injured you should try to contact your local wildlife rescue authority. Resin will confirm your I.D.
Hmm. Resin will confirm my ID? This is my first time on this forum, but I know Resin from other forums- goodness sakes, does she know everything? Haha. We are lucky to have her! Thanks- I will look into the sora- I've never heard of it. I described this bird to several people and they were all familiar with it but didn't know its name. All said it was a woodpecker-type bird.
Yes, it's a sora. If there is no local wildlife rescue facility, you might as well release it where it was found and let nature take its course, rather than stressing it further.
Thanks! My neighbor contacted a vet and will be delivering the bird to him in the morning- if nature hasn't already taken its course that is. I've never heard of a sora.
Resin does most of the ID's here "props". I'm just used to him putting the "!" on the ID's. lol
Oops, I always assumed Resin was a female- now that I think about it I have no idea why though. Sorry Resin, hope I didn't offend you- I guess I only know female gardeners- plus, you've always been very helpful which contrasts the men in my life. I think I've assumed every person to be female for some reason! Uh oh, I'll have to watch that.
Yep, Sora.
If you want to offer it some food before you take it to the vet, mealworms or earthworms would be ideal. It would likely also enjoy some water to paddle around in
Resin
Thank you Resin. :)
