winter dyckias

Covington, LA(Zone 8b)

Do any of you grow dyckias in large pots and leave them out for winter? I live in 8B, 25 miles north of Lake Pontchatrain in Louisiana.

I keep my dyckia out all year long but I am in zone 9. It might be a bit to cold where you are. How many day do you have of 32 and below do you have? If not to many you could just cover them up when temps go below 32.

We do have a few days below 32. Seldom are these consecutive for more than 3 days. I will try this with D. leptostachya and platyphylla since I have several of those. Also I will try aloe saponaria in a pot outside for winter, too. I have one in the ground that did well last winter.
Dyckias are not well known around here so I have no one to ask. A pity. They are lovely interesting plants.
Do you have hechtias?
