Japanese trailer project

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

This is for chit chat about the trailer project.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

OK>>>>>>>>>better pick the one I want to use.........will have it done tomorrow............I choose Glitter Fountain, a standard. It is going to kill me to take off all the leaves but 4 on this one!!

Is she too big, Jan? (I ordered another leaf in case I lose her in this wild project)

If she is too large, I can find another one.........

Oh, my, she has darling leaves. Will they all cup like that as they get older? Ya'll have to stop posting these pictures I like each one and that's just not good! Or at least start posting pictures of ugly plants so I can at least find one I just do not like.

Williston, ND

go ahead and take off those leaves and i know just the place you can send them lol,

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

But is she too big to use on the Japanese method? Everyone else is using a small plantlet. I think I better pick a smaller one for this project. Jim, I told you I love her so much that I have ordered another leaf from Violet Venture but I haven't heard from her since I placed my order. I know that she has health issues........

I will make sure I save a leaf for you , Jim............or a baby when I get my leaf.........she came from Goldleaf as a leaf.......gave the other babies to jannich I think. I can't remember.

Hi,
Gail, what size pot is your trailer in now? Is it too big for you to repot it in a 2 1/2 inch pot? You did send me a plantlet of glitter fountain,it didn't travel to well and has been in ICU for quite awhile. But the good news is it's putting out new leaves and will be just fine ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Darn it............I don't know how to pack avs......am going to try styrofoam cups this time!!!
My Glitter Fountain is in a 21/2" pot right now.............I can keep her there but I don't understand how to bury that much neck???????? Do you just wind it around (LOL)

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

I'm no av expert but I would take the leaves off, look at the neck you have and then take the plant out of the pot and cut that much off the bottom of your plant.sit the plant back in the pot.then you will have room to put your soil less mix in your pot and bury the neck.

Maybe someone else will come along with a better answer ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh.....I get it. Just reroot the plant. That sounds easy enough and makes more sense. Getting excited about this.
Jan, there is Anna wanting to know about baby violets and bio tone........I haven't tried it with violets yet. It is on the Bio Tone thread.

That is a gorgeous AV, Gail ... I love the looks of that foliage. I didn't realize Glitter Fountain was a trailer! I can just picture that one trailing all over the place and full of blooms! Now I've got to go google to see a photo of what the blooms look like!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Let's see what the bloom looks like. I am not sure I even know.

Gail, that is so pretty! I guess Glitter Fountain isn't in Plant Files, at least I couldn't find it. I did find this photo at the AVSA website:

Gail - I chose Glitter Fountain, too . . . it looks to be about the same size as yours, so maybe I brought it home from your place? Anyway, here is a pic of it after I broke it down . . . :-(

There are a few other trailers I am doing this with, but Glitter Fountain will be my 'main' plant.

Here is a Fairy Fountain that I decided to do this way, too. It is looking fairly sad now, but I'll bet in a few weeks it will look much better! It was big enough to put it straight into a small bulb pot . . .

ive got a overgrown fairy fountains,i love overgrown trailers

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Jim - I actually got this Fairy Fountains from you! To get it to look this sad, I removed at least 2 dozen leaves . . . it was nice and crowded. Maybe this method will work for this one! Looking forward to when it perks up!

I think it will be good to have an assortment of trailer varieties to watch the progress of ! I say the more the better! Then we might see something really special we all want cause it did the best !

And isn't it the point too, to learn to grow better looking trailers!

I think I had already pinched out the tops of all my other trailers........bummer..............oh well.. I just might have to order a few more for the project.

I've been berserk without Internet since the start of the weekend! Initially with bothersome but short disconnections, then it went completely out. I'm a klutz when it comes to wires and electronics, so I had to wait first for hubby, and then he had some long phone discussion with the tech-help and managed to get it working yesterday evening...

But anyway, here I am, and I am ready to go with this project. I have my cute trailer (Thanks, Jan!) and I'm waiting for you more experienced people to post pictures of their start, so that I'm sure I know what I'm doing.

Nichole, the first pic is your start of the project?

Alexandra

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Yes, the first pic is the 'official' entry! The second is just a side entry - since it was already kinda long . . .

Thanks for posting it! Out of curiosity, how big can a standard trailer get?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

See if this link works for you, A. It should answer a few questions for you, and make you think of a few more! It sure did for me!

IS there a book on growing trailers? When I joined AVSA I didn't order anything but I was thinking of it. I don't think I saw a book on trailers though. I think I must be a bit dense because sometimes these articles are supposed to be good and I only have more questions and don't understand half of what they say because there are no pictures or they think I know things I don't know or they just don't tell you something.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I don't know about a book, but I think there is a cd on the AVSA site on growing trailers.

Chicago, IL

Thank you. I will go look for it. I think I am going to buy one of the books too while I am there.

Richland, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Nichole. New questions, new wish lists... Oh, My!

The book Growing for Show has a lot of growing information. Even if you don't plan on showing any of your plants, it gives good advice on what to do to grow a beautiful plant. There is also an article here on Daves someone wrote and submitted about growing trailers.
