Camellia 'fragrant pink'

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

If this is a duplicate post, forgive me. It did not show up on my screen and I was sure I posted it under Fragrant Gardening. God knows where it is???

This little Camellia is not yet a year old and has its first bloom. The scent is so soft and the flower is not yet perfect, but for such a young plant I am amazed. My 2 yr. old plants are getting buds now, so pics of them will be forthcoming. Enjoy.

Camellias in NJ, eh?? Are these outside or in pots? I am impressed either way, they can be persnickedy. My plant list groweth, but I can't get anything till after I move. :(

Ahhh JB - you done good!! And she looks like she's in good company - is that a gardenia to her left?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

HI, yes Camellias in NJ for sure. Inside in pots and outside on the deck in pots. Soon to go in greenhouse for the 2 yr. old plants. (those on the deck).
This was my first attempt at them because I adore them and now I have the four type plants blooming that are my favorite. Camellias, gardenias, jasmine and Anthurium.

Chantell, yes that is a gardenia, it too is blooming. Did you see the pic of the Gardenia Nitida I put up? from Bud to bloom on this forum.

I am running out of space also. I need to stop soon. Hugs./ JB

I'll have to go look for that thread JB - how's the scent on those?

Hey Jberger, she's a beauty. Yes, we now have many Camellias for outside here now. Not sure if any of them are very fragrant. It's pretty cool when they bloom. Does that affect the fragrance?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

They are all in the greenhouse now except for this little one that is still in the house. I have not seen another bloom since the one I pictured here. Plenty of buds on all the plants and they are growing very fast. Getting tall and pushing buds. No blooms. ?????
This past month has been difficult for the GH. It is rather cool at night and the sun is so warm in the daytime the temp in the GH shoots up to high 90's at times with all the vents and doors open. I had to remove the shade cloth because the cuttings need sun, but boy that sun is hotter than anything I can remember at this time of year. I have come to conclusion if God wants me to have plants they will survive. :>)

Jberger, I have lots of buds on all of mine which are planted outside. I only have one fall bloomer and it doesn't usually bloom until mid November.

Here is another picture of the second bloom on this beauty. This one has an odor and if I am not mistaken it is almost like a "sweet pea" smell. It is amazing and so sweet. I am so happy to have it have a fragrance. The first one was so dull I could not identify it with anything.

JBerger and Stormy,

I'm an mid-Atlantic beginning gardener. Its nice to know there are
colorful blooms I can plant for autumn. There's so many for spring & summer that I've seen. Do you have any other suggestions for autumn?

Would certainly appreciate it. And JBerger, you camillas are gorgeous !

Cris, There are Asters, Mums, Montauk Daisies, Reblooming Iris, Helianthus, Pineapple sage, Farphugiums, Helenniums, Begonia Grandis, Hardy Cyclamen, Tricyrtis, Dahlias, Roses, Buddleias, Salvias, Agastache, Geraniums, Pansies, Galliardia, Echinacea, Heucheras, Goldenrods, Hosta, Coreopsis, Stella D'Oro Daylily, Crocus, Hydrangea, Aconitum, Clematis, Cannas, Dianthus, Azaleas, Yarrow and probably lots of others I can't think of.

Wow - didn't know they were all fall bloomers.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Cris, Not every cultivar of those listed are fall blooming. If you go searching for them online, make sure you type in "fall blooming" before the name. Most of the fall blooming Azaleas are the "Encore" series.

Hi Everyone, I am back again with another beauty. This is "April Blush" Camelia's first bloom. I got her from the Camellia Forest Nursery, in N. Carolina in March of this year. She was two years old and had never bloomed until today. Her frangance is so slight you can hardly smell it. It is a soft, sweet odor. Wanted to share it with you all. The picture was taken with my cell phone, so forgive me for not having a better shot. It was early this morning. It is very pale pink.

JBerger, she is lovely. Is she greenhouse raised, or living outside?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

She is in a large pot and lives in full sun on the south deck from April to August. When the sun starts to get really hot, and the weather will not permit me to put the awning down (gets really windy) I put them in the greenhouse. This morning she is open even more and just a picture. I love camellias almost as much as gardenias.
