The quest for Silkies continues.

Everybody remember I lost all but one silkie to a fox or the same dog that killed almost all my chickens later? Well, I got the one silkie from the abusive chicken guy and washed it up, but still thought it looked strange.....Well, someone from Craig's list brought me a silkie rooster tonight. It looks as strange as the other one, but at least clean. It has no crest, no beard, no earmuffs and a black comb that stands straight up. The only thing silkie about it is that it has a fluffy butt and 5 toes. It also has bright blue earlobes. I don't know what it is, but it's not what I think of as a silkie.

Both this one and the abused one came from Tractor supply plus. In fact, all the abused ones came from there. I suspect that they were all mixes and that is why the cornish crosses are almost bantam size. What a rip off! Did anyone else get strange chickens from Tractor supply?

So, I am still looking for a couple of silkies. These odd ones will at least keep my actual silkie warm this winter, but that's about all the good they are. Anybody got any idea where I can find some silkies in Michigan this time of year? It's pretty frustrating, I have given away dozens and dozens of chicks over the past few years through freecycle, but no one has answered my pleas looking for silkies now. I think I'm DONE with Craig's list. (someone else did actually reply to my ad on C.L., but then wanted $25 each for the birds).

Our Tractor Supply has chicks for sale each spring, but I have never bought any. They often, even as chicks, didn't look like what they were supposed to be.

Do they look like these two?

One good thing about it, if they are hens they will probably set for you on some good quality eggs.

Green, they do look a lot like yours, except they have no crest at all. The hen has one or to feathers that stick up and no comb at all. The rooster has no crest and thoes bright blue ear lobes. I can't remember what kind of chicken has blue earlobes. Tonight the rooster is sitting as high up in the cage as he can get. My other silkies always stayed low to the gorund.

Did yours come from Tractor supply?

No we have not tractor supply here. They were given to me,I didn`t think they were silkies so I posted a picture on her and was told they are.I was expecting them to look like the beautiful ones I see on here but I was told those are show silkies.

I know its not in Michigan.. but try Estes Hatchery. Its here by me.. has a website.. but i know they ship all year if they have what ur looking for right now. So far all the chicks have been in good health when we've gotten them. I know they did have Silkies this spring for sale. They have more in the mailer they send out than on the web. Idk if they've got them now or not but you might try. If you want a smaller hatchery.. i know fo one about 2 hrs north of me but i don't know what he's got right now & they are straight run when he does have them. I bought silkies from him this spring. Mine are adorable & sweet.

Unless of course if you want full grown chickens then my info isn't relevant.

The problem with a hatchery is that I would have to order so many birds, I would end up with way too many and after the losses this summer I can't afford to buy excess birds and give them away. I can't find anywhere that doesn't require at least 25 bantam chicks per order.

I'm really sorry I did this...at the bottom of the page is an "EE" special...25 females for $41.50, and free shipping....

Sigh.....

Sorry i thought the lil hatchery was selling less than 25 because I only bought 5 chicks from him.

I hope you find some. I love my little silkie. hesheit is the best little snuggly chicken I've got.

That would work out to 65 bucks for 10 chicks when I only want a few and September is pretty late to start with day olds here. I'll just keep watching for something closer. With all of them I've given away over the years, SOMBODY should come forward sooner or later with some extras.

I'm actually getting a bit attached to the two "almost silkies" The rooster has quite the personality. I'll try to get some pictures of him.

Read the shipping on my pet chicken. They will not ship fewer than 8 to 10 bantams and they want $35. for shipping. Way too much for me.
