Hello,
My name is Jori and I am from the Netherlands. I am new here.
I love al those different kinds of hibiscus. I only have a very licht yellow one which goes into my heated greenhouse in the winter or maybe in my living room when it is still flowering.
Then I also have some coccineus and some palustris. And also something we call a newbiscus here. It's also hardy. But I don't know a scientific name for this plant. I put in an image of this one.
I would like to have more plants for my greenhouse with those magnific colors you all have.
Can some of you help me to get some seeds? I can give you some seeds in return but I still have to finish my list here. The most of them are hardy plants but I also have a nice collection of tropical plants. I fancy collecting them.
I hope you forgive when my typing is not right but as you understand this is not my spoken language.

Dag Jori:
Although we live in cold european countries they are the easier ones where to find hybrid hibiscus (rosa-sinensis). You live nearer than me from the most known nursery in Europe (http://www.kwekerijgommer.com). Indeed, Gommer started to sell hibiscus from the Tahitian series this month although the majority were sold in just minutes.
Here, in the other part of the border, you can find hibiscus in Exotica nursery (http://www.plantencentrumexotica.com). I would recommend you to buy them in the nursery as Exotica is well known sending plants wrong labelled.
Since we bought a house with garden two years ago (before we were living in a rented appartment) I have the hibiscus planted into the ground, without pots, from mid April to beginning of October. They grow a lot with this method although they start severe pruned as the Winter defoliates them and rot some. In October I pot all of them and move them indoors.
The newbiscus is no more than a commercial name for a variety of H. moscheutos. I have some planted in the garden but just one survived the last and hard winter we had.
Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, the ones mainly covered in this forum, do not come true from seeds ... and that is the nice part of this game. The bloom of a seedling can be similar to a parent, if it is dominant, but also very different and seeds from the same seedpod can give blooms in different tones and sizes.
I do not have success with hybridizing. Most crosses I make take but later the pod drop or it is empty.
Tot ziens.
Carlos
Welcome Jori!
Your English is good. Welcome to DG. Think Carlos told you what you wanted to know.
I'm a beginner to the wonderful world of hybrid Hibiscus so I can't tell you about raising from seed. Working on doing that myself! Have you tried to root cuttings? If you can do that you may find someone close to you that would want to swap cuttings with you. Your
Hardy Hibiscus is very pretty. Thanks for sharing with us.
Judy
