Tacca "Green Isle" revisited

Gainesville, FL

I got the first bloom on my Tacca "Green Isle" today and I was just blown away. This is a really nice Tacca variety. The first flower is pretty smallish. I have no idea if they will get bigger as the plant does, I suspect they will.

But the flowers REALLY ARE GREEN!!!! And it has these incredible, over a foot long, iridescent purple whiskers. I was afraid that the real colors were not going to come out in the photos I took but they did. I also took a photo of my Black Bat (also presently in bloom) for comparison. I have 3 pics plus a 4th black bat pic

your tacca green Isle is stunning gothqueen! I don't have that one, I'll be hunting for it, in case it wasn't obvious, taccas are my ultimate favorite plants ;-)

That's one I haven't tackled yet! It rocks!

I think its one of the coolest new plants I have acquired lately. I am glad you like it too! Batflower, I recently also got the Tacca that looks like an amorphophallus, starts with an "L". No blooms yet, hopefully soon!

Now are they bulbs? I can't remember. I'm not sure why I haven't zeroed in on that one yet.
I suppose I've just never run across any!
I think it would be cool to take some trips around the South Pacific and hunt for interesting plants.!

We haved Tacca leontopetaloides which is native here and is green. But it doesn't have the large bracts some of the other Taccas have and the 'whiskers' are green. There's a large/broad leaflet form and a finer leaflet form. I've got them growing wild all over the place, but my bought black Tacca still hasn't flowered in about 3 - 4 years.

That is th eone I bought that looks like an amorphophallus, T. leontopetaloides. I will have to get a photo of the plant and show you tropicbreeze, so you can tell me if its the broadleaf or fineleaf form. If it ever stops raining so I can go outside, that is. We got 2.5 inches yesterday and its raining again now.

The only photo I've managed to dig up, was taken primarily for the butterfly, but the butterfly just happens to be on a young broad leafed one. The fine leafed one has many leaflets.

They are a tuber plant, like a rounded potato, not a bulb like an onion.

Got it...thankyou

OK...then the one I have is a fine leaf. Will get a photo though, god willing and the creek don't rise

I tried to grow some from seed , Package said it might take up to a year to germinate, nothing yet.
So where do you get the bulb? How tall does it get?
They are very unusal, are they houseplants?
Very good pictures, thanks for shareing.

I've grown the Black and White taccas for so many years that I forgot where I got the initial plants. But I bought the Green Isle at our local botanical garden sale for $10.
