OH NO! GREEN FLOWERS! Too cool!

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

hi Kell! Hope all is well with you :0)

I just won this one off ebay the other day...

The bids have gone up to as much as the high seventies so far, (that I know of)...fortunately mine didn't cost me that much, but still a lot...

it is one really neat av!

I think I would have named it "cabbage patch" or something, lol...

Yes it does look like a cabbage!

That would have been a great name! So easy to get that have to have mentaility on eBay. Only trouble is when you are up against another plant nut. I bought 2 plants this week on there and both ended up being so overpriced. Of course I did not come to my senses till after I bought them both. LOL

I didn't know you were collecting these. I have been hot for the streptocarpus this month. I cannot kill them! Even when I left one in the hot car for 2 weeks and pulled it out a cripsy critter with no hope at all, I watered it and saw a little green in the center a day or so later and up it rose from the ashes. They over winter here too outside.

I showed British Sue the other day this pic, a great variegated one. Hi Sue!

I didn't know you were collecting these

Well, I didn't start out to collect them, lol...I just sorta couldn't stop, ...isn't that how most of these collections get started?

I've recently started going through the house, and have been trying to organize and de-clutter. I brought an old teaset out of the attic and decided to display it, rather than let it sit in a box in the attic, or sell it. Then saw these teacup inserts for avs on ebay, and I decided that it would be a great way to not only display the tea set, but also grow MORE plants!, lol...

It started out right, but as you can see I've already added teacups from another set, and then still had to add some little candle urns for some minis. I just couldn't leave it simple and stop at one teaset, could I?...I'm hopeless I guess.

Oh, boy...now you'll get me started on streps! That variegated one is really pretty. There is one strep I've been interested in for a while now. But, the last time I saw it on ebay I got outbid. It is called 'Big Yolk'.

Oh Kelly what a fantastic display!

I wish it was Kelley but that is Taylor's, Sue.

Now I remember. I saw this when you got those so neat shelves. So are they potted directly in those tea cups? Is that an old painted set? I imagine it will ruin the bottom of the cups but it is fantastic. If that were mine they would all be dead by now.

Apologies Taylor!

kniphofia-Thanks!...and no need to apologize :0)

Kell-
yep...it might mess up the inside of the cup for a while, but nothing a little hydrogen peroxide can't fix. It is better than selling the set, or letting them stay in a box in the attic :0)

Actually, they are in a little container that is placed inside the teacup. Really just the water sits in the cup and a little string runs down from the container into the water in the teacups for wicking...

Yes it is a handpainted set from Japan. It is near a window, so it happens to get the right amount of light(filtered all day, but no direct sun). Any other place in my house would not have the right light, and I'd have scorched them by now with too much sun, or rotted them from not enough, but that spot was just right for them.

Don't worry...if you ever come to visit Texas, I won't pull those cups down and serve you tea in them, ha-ha
