I've never had to house break a dog before. All our other dogs were already trained when we adopted them. Since we took in Buster Sancho, a 1 yr. old Pittie, in July, he's been living on the enclosed back porch. I'm familiar with his daytime potty routine and let him outside many times a day. The problem is at night. I let him out before we go to bed, but he doesn't hesitate to pee on the porch in the early morning before I get there at 6:00 a.m. He sleeps in his crate, but with the door open. Perhaps I should start shutting the crate door at night. I know he'll object to it though and he's one strong Pittie. He has to learn he can't just lift is leg on the nearest piece of furniture when he has to go. The local humane society is helping with the neutering costs because we took in a stray. Hopefully we'll have that taken care of next week and his hyperactivity should settle down. He needs to become part of the "inside the house" family. We spend a lot of time with him during the day. Lots of walks in our hay field and running around the yard chasing butterflies. He whines at night and wants to join Buddy in the house. He has to stop peeing at will first. How do I train him? Winter is coming.
