Any other fellow abutilon lovers?
I have quite a few. They bloom almost all year long, so easy! I used to have a terrible time with slug nurseries under them until I started using that iron sulfate I think it is. Now I rarely see a slug.
I think these buds are just so cool.
New 2009 Abutilon
Kell, what is the name of this abuillon? I love them, but don't have many places to put them, but I am working on it.
Hi Patricia. Fancy meeting you here. Tiger Eye. It looks like it is going ot be a tall upright one. It has bigger leaves than I like but shoot, the bloom is so great I will forgive it that. LOL
Imagine the colors this one opens the door for. It might be fun to cross them!
I really like it Kell !
kell, the first pic looks like something out of a scifi show. I don't know why abutilons and I don't get along. Considering I do well with hibbies and others in this family, it just doesn't make sense. I will have to enjoy them thru you.
I wonder why Nery, they are so easy here. Maybe too hot where you are.
Abutilons are great hummimg bird plants. When I lived in 8A the tall species with orange and red flowers was in bloom all the time. Here in 8B they die to the ground but quickly return in spring. I am looking for A. Nabob"-solid red flr, about 5'X5' bush. Anyone??
So true. I have hummers in my courtyard everyday!
Too bad you can't find Nabob where yo live. I see them here frequently. It is such a beauty!
Stunning indeed! How do you make yours bloom all year? Mine bloom mostly in winter and spring...I get no blooms in the summer!
I get most of my blooms in summer. I am cool here, you must be too hot.
Nery, the only abutalon I have ever kept alive is one from the Belle series. I got it at a nursery that has since closed and I have not seen them anyplace else. I have not had good luck with cuttings but I will try again for you. It does not seem to mind the heat here and blooms year round.

Bella series. Alice? I love those. Big colorful bells and lots of them. We have them all over here for sale in all colors.
Do they form seeds for you Alice? That might be easier to do.
thanks A.
My tag says Belle Series.
I have never seen any seeds but I will keep my eyes open now.
Is it the wide open ones like these? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/73733/
I had one marked Belle once, it said it got to be 6 feet. LOL. 6 feet would be great. LOL It looked just like the Bella ones.
The biggest abuitilons that I know of were the species type growing in riversand fill in Metairie, LA.(8A). Riversand is probably a common term used in many areas to name a certain kind of sandy- light clay mix. This stuff came from the Bonnet Carrier spillway near NewOrleans. It is loaded with nutrients that come when the Mississippi River floods.. Riversand can grow the most beautiful plants--especially tomatoes! I wish I could get it where I live now.
Very pretty Alice. I love the small leaves. You know orange is now my favorite color.
It looks like this Bella Apricot Shade Abutilon which says it is a compact plant which yours is. I wonder if Belle was a typo.

For fun, look at the bottom of this link for other Bella colors.
But look this one is named Abutilon 'Apricot Belle' but it is not yours. http://www.pickoftheplanet.com/varieties/abutilonapricot.html
I saw a new one to me today. Watermelon Candy. Don't you love that name? It had the prettiest bright pink veining.
One of the top hummingbird researchers and banders lived in Metairie for many years. She had a fine Nabob in her front yard. During migration we would go to her home to see hummers that were very seldom seen in our area of the country. These birds were all over Nabob. Nancy loved this abuitilon because it is smaller well shaped shrub than the species but makes many nectar filled flowers over a long period. Everything about her home was geared to hummers-even open windows so they could fly inside to feed. Feeders were situated with photographers in mind. Quite a show!
Kell, it must have been a typo because I can't find anything about Belle and Lots about Bella online.
Flicker, I want a Nabob now; most plants in my garden are geared to hummers. I don't put feeders up anymore because it is so hot here the nectar had to be changed daily and that was a pain so I just planted red flowers instead.
Maybe I should get one too. I have lot of hummers. BTW, my sister lives in Metairie.
I have had hummers come in to my dining room thru the open sliding glass doors which I am forever leaving open much to my husband's chagrin.
Then to get them out takes hours. If I have a red amaryllis on my dining room table they come roaring in. I had a skunk come in also.
I think it is a typo too, Alice. Though once I bought a abutilon that was called belle too. Probably a type also. We have bellas all over here.
A sister in Metairie!! I hope she didn't have too much damage from Katrina. Does she garden?
The first picture looked like a knitted or crocheted piece balled up. It's an illusion!
