This is 'Smokey Joe' a medium sized brown with lighter edges and a nice red eye.The intensity of color varies with the temps. We just had a week of near cold weather 60's day 40-50's nights. IN AUGUST????Should be like Brazil.
Kyle:-)
Found this yesterday behind some other plants
What a nice surprise to see that bloom hiding in the back of other plants. What does it look like when it is hot out, more or less intense?
d
Great Bloom Kyle... Do you know who Hybridized it ?
Kyle, that one of the prettiest brown hibs I ever seen, it's perfect, you have that cold weather already, we still are in the high 80s & 90s over here.
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful bloom with us.
Wilfred
Kyle "Aztec Chocolate" is even prettier, do you sell any cutting from it or in the future plan to sell any.
Wilfred
Thats Great Kyle.... You really have some nice cvs. " Aztec Chocalate" is Amazing.
Wilfred....someday.many of these I only have a single plant of.No more greenhouse to use at work so no mist bench to root cuttings either.
Kyle :-)
Kyle, both are simply gorgeous. You must be very proud of your accomplishments with these beautiful cvs. Thanks for sharing them.
Judy
Kyle :-), I love those brown combo colors. They are beautiful! Good to meet you & love that you're posting these pictures for us. Thanks
To bad you can't propagate it Kyle, you sure would have a lot of people interested in buying your seedling cuttings, they're so gorgeous and uncommon.
Wilfred
We love those colors also
Kyle you need to hide your plant my wife is on her way with the clippers, she really likes the browns. LOL

I'm with you, Kyle brown hibs are sure beautiful, they would be winners at any hib contests for sure, especially that "Aztec Chocolate"
Wilfred
***BLUSHING*** aaah shucks! :-)
I love this one! What beautifull colors!
Kyle let me take care of "Aztec Chocolate" for you. I am a good babysitter and you will have another spot to grow and show another one. I would love a couple cuttings to try to root myself. I love browns, greens, and would really love to see your blues. Each one you show takes my breath away.
Please I will take your ugly ones. You have had amazing hibiscus over the years.
Tell me in my heat here how to you get a bloom that sets seeds and not turn yellow and fall off. Is it the 100 degree weather?

I am having problem with my blooms turning brown and never opening. We are in drought conditions with temp's in the high 90's. I do water regularly, but it's really been a scorcher of a summer here in South Texas. I don't have them in full sun either.
Neat "Aztec Chocolate". Kind of reminds me of "Black Voodoo"
Sandy, the heat around 85F + is usually fatal to pollen grains. When the weather cools a little it should set seeds. We are to have night temps in the mid 40's Saturday and sunday nights. What month is this??? We have had a cool summer, we wanted one, but not for this long, the hibbies are real shy on flowers because its so cool.
Kyle :-)
Tried cross pollination several weeks ago & then read that the ideal temp was 60-80 F. Here in N. Tx. it was 101 F 2 days ago. Have a cool front now so its only 90 F now. Think we just struggle to keep things alive in the summer. May get cool enough to try again in a couple of mos. :-) Kyle, your plants are show stoppers & everyone would love to have them.
Judy
Yes, that sounds too hot to cross pollinate. Generally its done down here from October-April.
Ok I will try then. I noticed some had seed but they yellowed and fell off. Kyle mine have been shy of blooms from the excess heat hear in Houston area.
I am ready for cool. I lost a lot of Brugs in this heat. It has been the hottest the longest this yr that I remember. It is unbearable.
Beautiful Hibiscus, You did a magnificent job.
