Hi All:
As I was cleaning and feeding my cats this morning I came up with an idea. I was using the floral tubes but they didn't keep the milkweed from wilting very long. I tried the blocks of foam wrapped in press and seal... it works but frass acumulates on the blocks.
This morning I cut the floral foam into triangle shapes. I'm hoping the frass willl roll off - thru the grid shelf down to the newspaper lined floor. I tried paper towels on the floor..... but my budget can't support it.. LOL. A Newspaper comes to the house everyday & I'm puting the crappy news to work catching crap. I put down double pages - stacked up 30 or so high, then when I need to "clean" I just fold up the top one and toss.

Clever girl! Thanks for the good idea.
the triangle shapes work really well. I now make a hole in the tippy top of them and stick in the stems of milkweed. Frass now rolls off, down to the floor. Newspaper works ok.. but with our hard rains had to roll up and throw out a stack. I'm going to look for a "floor" that will keep the newspaper off the deck.
my gardening and monarchs are taking a backseat to Hubby's big toe joint replacement which was done this morning and he is supposed to be "flat on his back with leg elevated for 2-3 weeks. He has had osteoarthritis for years, and was supposed to have his left knee done in Oct. but he stepped wrong yesterday and may have "blown" out the right knee, which will be looked at by ortho on monday
gosh growing old sucks, I want the name and number of the person who called these the "golden years" .
The only "golden" is making the doctors rich!!
Great idea to make less work for the frass. I have a lot of the parasitic wasp that can get through the netting the size you have so I can't do that. Way to improv. to make it work for you!
