OH Green!!! What a thrill, congrats to you!!! They are great birds, I have probably twelve and I love them, they are so gentile and calming. I have five buff minorcas, and they lay huge eggs, but they are the most skittish birds I have ever been around. you can't get within fifty feet and they just run like you have promised to skin them alive. Congratulations! I know that thrill. I just had it myself not long ago. I have golden comets too and got my first egg from one. I think she was 16 weeks old.

OK, I'm going to show my ignorance here. What is the difference between a hen and a pullet? I thought pullet was just another word for hen ???

Bridgewater, ME

If I`m right I think a pullet isn`t a hen untill she in a year old, anyone correct me if I`m wrong

Nope--you're right. And a male chicken is a cockerel until he is a year old--then he is a rooster.

I`ll be glad to get my first ee`s egg, can`t wait to see the color, most of them are very timid, there is one that looks like a sea gull that likes my dh and will let him pick her up.

Thanks for the explanation. I had no idea.

I now have three pullets (see I learned a new word) laying eggs. One golden comet and two RIR's. They are 18 weeks old now I think.
