Cleaning Leaves

Teguise, Spain

Wherever I have lived, Ive sprayed my Hoyas a lot to increase the humidity, and everywhere Ive lived it has had hard water which leaves the leaves looking dull and chalky. I read somewhere , probably here, but I cant remember who posted it, that a few drops of vinegar on water dissolves this covering when wiped on and lightly wiped off. Well, I tried it and voila, it worked a treat. Nice shiny leaves again, but be warned, its addictive and if you have a lot of plants....it will take a long time..:))
So, thanks to whoever that was.....Ric or Doug, I think??

What a great idea! Oh, wait, I'm one with a lot of plants, so I'd never be able to sit down... Would it work to add the vinegar to the water that I use to spray with? That's just tap water that's sat for a day or so.

LOL, reminds me when I would sit, with one plant for an hour or longer, with cotton swab and alcohol, cleaning mealy bugs! Now, I keep a spray bottle alcohol and just spray all the cracks and crevices if I spot mealies.

Household vinegar mixed with water is a good idea ... we have a water softener system so I don't have a problem with hard water spots on plants but I always used vinegar/water solution for cleaning my windows and it worked well for alleviating water spots and streaks.

I found that it worked best to wipe it off with a cloth after a few seconds when it had dissolved the limescale with a gentle rubbing action. Id be averse to leaving it on the leaves with it containing the vinegar.. If you spray it on fine, but I think you need to wipe it off.....and dont book any holidays away when you start, its addictive, you'll need the time at home to keep going..:))
