Ear Infections

Loudonville , OH(Zone 5b)

My Burmese female started isolating and just not acting right so I took her to the vet on Aug. 12. While waiting for the vet to see her I noticed a small amount of crusty stuff on her left ear. The vet diagnosed a nasty ear infection and gave her a shot and gave me some drops to put in her ear. I used the drops the next day (Thursday) and then when I got home from work Friday morning she was lying in a chair in the living room. I got the medication for her ears and put it in and noticed blood on the left side of her mouth. She wasn't acting right so I picked her up and set her on the floor where she tried to walk and just fell over. I called the vet and took her right in. The ear was worse, her equilibrium was way off and she had apparently fallen and knocked out her lower left canine tooth some time during the night. They kept her until Tuesday. There was so much infection in the ear that they were unable to see the ear drum so stopped the ear drops and started her on oral antibiotics and a pain med/anti-inflammatory med. She is coming out and socializing much more, eating everything in sight, and talkative. However she walks like a drunken sailor and she can't understand that she can't jump up on things and keeps crashing into whatever she tries to jump on. I am starting the second round of antibiotics. She is still have some drainage from the ear. The vet said that the loss of balance could last a month or so.
Has anyone had any similar experience with ear infections in cats?
