I have Hedychium coccineum, Orange Bottlebrush and Hedychium coronarium White Garland Lily Ginger) happily growing and blooming.
Three questions:
1) How or should I remove the faded blooms??
If I cut them off - how far down. the orange one is in the seven to eight foot range.
(Nope it never got that tall before but this year some Super Thrive got ton some and well - now I have 7' - 8 ' Gingers)
2) Is the White Garland Lily Ginger root edible?
and lastly,
3) Can the grocery store variety of ginger root grow and bloom also?
Ginger dead-heading??
Yes, you can grow edible ginger from roots available at the grocery this is what the flower looks like.

H coronarium edibility http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Hedychium+coronarium
Unless you want to save the seeds, there is no reason to deadhead. The stalk that bloomed will only bloom the one time, and now that its done, it will get ratty looking and die back, so unless you want to see if you get seeds, you may as well go on and cut it down at the ground and compost it
oh THANK YOU!
I had waited several days for these answers and afterwards thought the questions were too silly or dumb. But I did want to know.
