It indeed is an interesting plant and a native plant here. It's a perennial and grows up to 5 ft. although I have only seen them at about 3 ft. The flowers are a chocolate red and another common name for it is 'Chocolate tips'

Thanks for the additional info. I see it's hardy in my zone too! I'll have to look for that one. I like growing unusual plants here and there.
