All that Remains....boo hoo!

Stevens Point, WI

Well, it was fated to happen, I guess. For the 2nd time, I am fighting to keep a Red Robin going, but I can tell its a losing battle. And this is the LAST time I will try Red Robin. I have not a clue what I did wrong. I was so careful with it, and my other 2 Rexes are thriving so well. I am trying to root a leaf, but bet that won't work either. Well, it was GORGEOUS while it lasted. ChuLin

ChuLin,

Cut off any obvious bad leaves, give it some water if it needs it, and put it in some kind of terrarium with moderate light if you cannot put it outdoors. If too much moisture is in the container (lots of condensation), then vent or dry out with paper towels. If too dry, you will see wilting. Do not water again until it needs it. Don't give up and don't despair.

Rexes are finicky but can still be used as summer annuals.

HCMC: your begonias are GORGEOUS! Can't do the sit it outside thing...I live in a 5th floor apartment and no balcony. Anything I sat outside would be gone (as in stolen) or bashed up. I will endeavor to persever with it, however. I'll put a candle jar over it and see what that does, if anything. I don't hold out much hope at this point. Thanks for the encouragement! ChuLin

A cookie jar or ten gallon aquarium would be better but anything to boost the humidity will help I do believe.

Well,WOW, you did a great job with those! Beautiful! I haven't given up yet. Potted it down a smaller size and put it under a jar...so as long as there is a leaf I still have hope!

Another Red Robin gone to plant heaven. The two little leaves that were left turned black and died. I sure give up on RRs now...will not try that again, although they certainly are gorgeous! The two Rex I have are doing great...no problems at all. However, I do still have one RR leaf in water I am trying to root, so all MAY not be lost. ChuLin

Did you have luck water rooting that leaf? I lost all that I tried in water, but root them pretty well in mini terrariums.

You must cover the cutting in water as well as potting mix. One for humidity and two to keep pathogens to a minimum.

Maybe that's what I did wrong. I just tucked cuttings into a baby food jar with no protection. Thank you :)

With no cover the water usually will sour. Also make sure you have a good healthy leaf.
