Ok, I got 5 baby melons, problem is, my weed cloth which was under the grow flat bags of coir with my watermelons in them, has disintegrated with the weather we have been having lately, and my melons are lying on the ground. I don't want this next year, any ideas? I really don't want to make hammocks for each and every melon; but, had thoughts of perhaps putting down some plywood on the ground, that way at least they won't be sitting in the grass?
How's everyone else doing with their melons, can I see some pics please of the melons growing?

Show me your watermelon in the place you have it planted
I got my melons planted late and they are now starting to come up, all over the place too. LOL I think next time round I will have an above ground bed to plant them in. That way they can sprawl out all over the bed. My lil sis has both pumpkins and water melons going on in her big back yard, she does in ground gardening. I don't like the idea of the wild vines myself, same with the cukes. Now the indeterminate tomatoes I can tame right down; but you can't do that with melons and cukes.

Used, clean, pantyhose...
Gymgirl: Could you post some pics of your melons please? I lost all mine this season, not a one to be had. They all rotted right on the ground or bugs ate them. You should see how fast a small group of bugs can eat an entire melon. I know people use hammocks but how do they do that?

Ray: Slurp, slurp, tasted great. So; you are going to use a self watering container next time? Did you use a hammock to hold up each watermelon and/or are you going to do it again? And how do you make your hammock if you did? I heard that you could use clean panty hose and you tie each end of the panty hose to like a stob and it makes a hammock for the watermelon?

Most definitely gonna grow Cantaloupe and Watermelon in a few SWCs next year. I didn't trellis them or tie them. I let them just sprawl over the Ice Plant.
Ray: Ah, gotta get those ice plants yet, as I don't have any of those so can't copy your idea. I saw where people are making hammocks for their watermelons.
