Our 4th Titan Arum to flower this year!
Amorphophalus Titanum at Kew gardens.
AWESOME! Thanks for the photo!
My titanum still has a while to go before it gets that size, but I live in hope. Still waiting for it to produce this years leaf. The roots are already starting to grow so shouldn't be too long. Only having the one plant, I have to find out where I can get some pollen.
rbt, could you give us an idea of dimensions. What is the width of the flower in the pic and what is the diameter of the pot?
Just one question, after flowering do the bulbs regenerate, or is all the energy spent on the flower and without a leaf the old bulb dies without a replacement?
The tuber has a dormant period (4-6months) then a new leaf emerges. It may not flower for a few years while the new leaf growth builds up the tuber.
It was just that I saw a comment somewhere saying that sometimes the plant dies (completely) after flowering. While it's flowering or has seed it won't get a leaf, which means there's nothing to feed a new tuber. The old tuber goes into the flower and seed. It doesn't happen with my other amorphs but the titanum has such a huge flower.
Just a stunning picture, rbtkew.
I always got to the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden when one of theirs is in bloom. Such fun to see it.
I tried to grow it twice but it really needs a GH around here though I grow a few other kinds with no trouble.
rbtkew, that is absolutely Breathtaking.
How tall is it? How long dooes the bloom last.?
Such a beautiful bloom.
Charleen
Almost 2m tall and sadly the flower only last a day!
Thatis amazing. Another reason to keep our camera with us
when we go looking at plants. Never know what opportunity
to get a great pic.
Thank you
Charleen
